Anyone offering a free moving truck? How is it working out for you?

Priced them out around here and payment and insurance would be around $575 per month. Granted gas is another huge expense, but clients using it are supposed to return it full.

$575 per month seems like some pretty inexpensive advertising for a billboard that size moving all around town.

Have you priced billboard advertising???

I have one of the trucks(was before I switched to Commercial only) and it was worth the cost. You can offset the cost by offering advertising to your favorite title company and your favorite lenders. I am also a builder so I split the cost between my real estate business and our construction company.

The truck is great publicity and you can write off part of the costs by offering it for free use to charities.

My team in minneapolis has a rental truck with our photos on it. The truck is always being used and people love it. You can see photos on my teams website.

My broker owns 3 trucks..our clients love the usage of free moving truck. In worst case scenario if we double book it or truck in broken down we compensate $100.

We do take a refundable deposit of $50 so that clients returned the truck with full gas tank.

Our office has had a pull-behind trailer that has our advertising on it. We started doing this long before the courtesy moving vehicle was trendy. I don't know that it has brought us a lot of business, but the ones who use it think it is wonderful.

It is available to our buyers and sellers, but it cannot be taken outside our county. The insurance is very steep, and the wider the travel, the higher the premium.

Sorry, I don't know who insures it, just that it is pricey. We too ask for a $50 deposit, refundable when the unit is returned.

I know of one woman in our office that does this. The box truck looks like a small billboard with her on both sides and she also has a Hummer with herself on it too. All painted up.

Yuma,

Insurance prices are different based on area and other factors. I have minimum coverage but I also carry a million dollar blanket liability policy for my business. Call your regular insurance guy for a quote. I am surprised that you did not do that in the initial planning stage.

We have had a truck for many years, have had enough sales to cover the price of the truck, but at $350 a month for insurance, there are a lot of different ways to spend that money.
Biggest problem is the way we have our insurance set up is only specific individuals can drive it. Just don't have the time any more.
People always want to move on the weekends, and that is when I'm out showing property. Also, when you add it to your services, people become demanding with the truck.
The way I had to do it was, take truck to home, leave truck for the buyers to fill it up, go back pick it up drive to new home, leave truck, come back once the truck was empty.
The moving billboard, also becomes problematic, because only two of us could drive it. Again, just not enough time. We would take it out when we could, but if you have to meet new clients to show houses, it's hard to do in a box truck.
So we have downsized, this is my new marketing vehichle.
hence the name trex
http://www.Go-T-Rex.com

Gets a lot more attention than a box truck, less insurance and a whole, whole lot more fun to drive, don't have a lot of time to drive this either, but when I do, lets just say I find myself covering more ground, and meeting more people.

Just a silly question, do you disclose this in the transaction? The fact that they are getting free use of this service/moving truck? This came up in a CE class I had, and the instructor said you absolutely had to disclose this, as it was inducement to a contract.
