Hello,

I am considering becomming a real estate agent. As the title woudl suggest one of the biggest factors is autonomy, not having a boss monitoring, setting my own schedule. It isnt about effort or work as I might work 60 -70 hours a week. However, I want it to be on my time and choice. However, while being your own boss and scheduling are listed as big perks of real estate career, I see a lot of advertisments talking about full time or in office requirements. Others dont, so what is typical is it a question of certain brokers being more particular about things and others just caring about production? For instance I would want to work at home exclusively. I know I can discuss this up front however, I would like to get a comment from actual agents. Thanks.

Every company is different. One company here actually makes the agents take turns being the receptionist while others require no office time. As a new agent you might not find the flexibility given to an experienced agent because the broker is liable for your mistakes and a cautious broker will want to monitor your activity until they are comfortable with you staying home. You have to interview some companies to find the right match.

My advice is start working in an office where you can learn from the other agents around you until you know the ropes. The schooling and testing to get your license will not prepare you in any way to sell real estate.

Thank you that is what I figured. I am looking for specific names if possible. I know it will probably come down invertviewing different brokers. I am looking at keller williams and some smaller brokerages. Any other brokerages that you think are known for more independent style.I am not opposed to being more traditional schedule wise early one. Just looking for that flexibility compared to something like you mentioned.
