Hello -

We are building a new home. The builder has decided to run pipes through a bedroom closet making half of the closet unusable. This is not only absurd, it is different from the representations made in the community's model homes. (The community has two models, a high-end and a standard. Neither has pipes in the closet.) For us, the house has limited storage and we absolutely can't have a half-useless closet. Plus the pipes are haphazard (crooked) and ugly. This is supposed to be a luxury home!

We have requested that the builder correct this to match the representations made in the model homes (no pipes visible anywhere).

If the builder refuses to correct the pipes, we do not want to go forward with the contract. We are concerned about our earnest money. This being Seattle, 5% earnest money is a big chunk of change.

If they refuse, I believe we could simply require rectification of this problem as a condition of closing (similar to quality problems a buyer might find during final walk-through). If the builder complies, great, if not, we get our earnest money back. Am I right?

Hi Mike,
I know these things don't sound good moreover, anything going through bedroom closet is really frustrating. You got to know about this prob
but what about if there is more trouble? I would suggest you hire a home inspection expert and do a thorough check with Home Inspector Volo.
