Hello!

I'm an interior designer that wants to purely focus on staging at this time. I have been designing for 3 years and in that time have staged quite a few homes. I really like this type of work. That being said, I am conducting some "market research" on an idea I have.

My other talent is cooking/baking and thought I could maybe capitalize on these skills to set myself apart from other stagers, I would like to offer a day of open house prep. I would basically open, turn on lights, do some light cleaning all around (interior, exterior) if needed, set music, and set up seasonal goodies I have prepared (will acquire a food handlers card), refreshments, and fresh flowers etc. All the agent needs to do is show up with their cards! :) Turning my staging business into something more "full service"...

Is this "extra" something that would help the agent in their efforts to sell the home? Thank you! I really value your opinions!!

Howdy!

Sounds like an interesting idea, but not sure if many agents would want to pay for the service. The purpose of an open house is for the agent to pick up a buyer.

The only way to find out is to test out your idea. Start calling agents in your area and offer the service. Since you're a home stager now, ask your current contacts if it's a service they would be interested in and then give them a discount.

Hi David! Thank you...yes you're right. I guess the only way to see if anything sticks is to JUST DO IT :) Giving it at a discount is a good idea to start! Thanks!

Very interesting idea. I guess this service would be a good option for higher priced homes. For average single family homes in my region which is greater Toronto Durham area in Ontario, homes sell for over asking without having to do much. I however offer professional photography and professional staging consultancy for my listings at my own expense. Even that is not needed in some cases smile
