I have a wordpress version 3.4 site, I tried to update to the latest 3.9, but I get errors. A webmaster told me that my version is too old and that I need a new website.

Can my website be saved? Or do I need to get a new one, www.downtownmiamicondofinder.com

Please advise.

Is it this error message:

"Fatal error: Cannot redeclare rich_edit_exists() (previously declared in..." ?

What errors are you getting? Is it that some of the plugins will not update?

The plugins are all up to date, no problem there. When I try to update to 3.9 it states:
unpacking the updates
could not copy files
installation failed

It would not be a problem with your website being obsolete. It would be an issue with your hosting/server settings most likely. You may want to put in a support ticket at your hosting company.

Likely a permission issue or space issue.

I think you need to settle this matter to your host.

Sometimes hosts will limit the size of a file that you can upload. When they do this WP will have a problem updating the platform and any large plugins.

So the first step would be to contact your host, tell them what you are trying to do and ask if they have a file size limit. If they do, they can usually remove the restriction.

If that doesn't work then it might be that 3.4 can handle the jump. In that case, you'll have to upload the new files via FTP and just overwrite the old version.

However, don't do anything until you completely back up your site! Especially the database!

Good luck!

Ed

When this has happened to me in the past what I've done is make a backup of the current working version of the site and then I manually do the upgrade. Download the files at WordPress.org and manually upload them. Go here https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress and look for the manual update instructions on how to do it. This will work most of the time. If it doesn't worst case scenario you have the backup and put up your old site.

I had a problem where once I updated my theme was so out of date it didn't work at all. I ended up having to use/make a new theme, but the upgrade itself was fine.

Appears to be working and looks good, might suggest bringing your searches up higher on the page.
