Christ Christi and Bill Clinton talk at the June 2013 CGI AMERICA (Clinton Global Initiative) meeting, where leaders of business and government come together annually to discuss finding solutions that promote economic recovery in the United States.

A lot of issues are discussed by this group but this particular video centers on recovering after a natural disaster. I think any Realtor would want to listen to this...about the cooperation of federal and state governments to help the citizens and the economy recover after hurricanes and other major disasters.

You won't fall asleep watching this video, I promise. It's all relevant, it's all things that your sellers and buyers may experience at some time in the future, if they haven't already.

Clinton and Christi discuss how the east coast as well as other states may need to rethink how they deal with the long-term aftermath of major disasters.

They discussed everything from building codes, flood insurance, NOAA, FEMA, building coastal dunes, tornados, river flooding, fires, assistance funds, buyouts, and instilling hope in people impacted by disasters. Christi explained how NJ has been dealing with their problems and trying to make sure that his state will be more ready for the next hurricane.

Unless I missed it, they made no mention of climate change except to note the job of NOAA and the moving of "hurricane alley" (which in itself is scary because many states do not have basements or tornado shelters.) This meeting wasn't about what has been causing some of these disasters but instead dealt with how our country handles them now and how they may need to handle them in the future.

Realtors in all states, not just the coastal states, may find it informative how the rebuilding process works, at least in NJ as well as how important cooperation is between the federal government and the state(s) impacted.

Nice to see two politicians of different parties respect each other and logically discuss one of the most important looming problems this country has been facing...what seems to be an increase in natural disasters.

Christi (my fav) is on his best behavior and extremely diplomatic as he sits across from a respected former president and fellow American who has stepped up to the plate to draw attention to this important issue.

This post hopefully will net some comments about the subject of their discussion, not about them personally.

The Capitalists ran a profit/loss sheet and determined that there's more profit rebuilding after disasters than there is in preventing them from happening.

Invest in private security companies, construction companies, concrete, steel, Caterpillar, and anything related to funerals & burial services.
Let's take back the real estate between our ears and get green like a sonofa$%^&*

"Preventing them from happening" REALLY? I know they are capable politicians but that might be just a tad bit beyond their pay grade...
