Actually, the article you link to is interesting, but I take issue with several of the points raised.

Specifically, the mention that an error in measuring square footage can dramatically affect pricing. At least in our area, appraisers do not calculate and use a price per square foot to determine value. Value is based upon correcting details of comparable properties to match the subject property.

Differences in value due to square footage are calculated using standard formulas not related to any price per square foot that was calculated for the home. In fact, the value given to the differences in square footage is frequently far less than the "price per square foot" value of the entire home.

Great article, good to know how this process is actually done to have a better understanding of what's going on when you order this to be done.
