I think it is time out for this FREE work in our industry. We work on short sales, buyers and at the end of the day NOOO money until they buy. They change their minds and we get no compensation. NOO other industry does this. It is time for upfront, non-refundable retainers for our time and knowledge.
Am I the only one thinking this ????????

Since we're commission-based, free work in our industry is a norm. We're not fee-based. As far as SS, my dept. doesn't allow any "up-front" fees for agents.

This is one of the downsides of working for yourself.

Most industries operate this way, you just don't realize it. The next time you are in the grocery store take a look around, somebody cleans that store, buys the product, and rotates the stock. There is somebody available to direct you to what you are looking for, and someone available to check your purchases out. The last thing you do in the store is hand over your money. Have you ever walked out of a store because you couldn't find what you are looking for?

Every so often a new business model comes up that is based on this, I haven't seen one that worked well, but they are probably some out there. In order to make that work you would probably have to charge so much less for your services they probably wouldn't be worth doing.

It's a long learning curve but you will be able to reduce the "wasted time" eventually. I screen my buyers and sellers well, and most close. When I work with a buyer or seller and they don't close, I figure I got paid exactly what I earned.

I disagree. In all industries one gets paid after an actual sale. You can spend the whole day convincing a client to purchase a certain product then at the last minute they refuse to buy.
That is just business.

Any sales based industry operates much the same. People shope the competition and buy from one or the other. The guy left out in the cold screams and cries like you are. The alternative for you is to get out of sales and get a salary or hourly based job...something with guaranteed pay, not sales.
