For listings it is good to have a presentable car, one that says you can afford to advertise their home to get it sold. But not to fancy where it says your are making to much (perception charge too much).

I drive Volvo's, not ostentatious can fit in with all classes of people on both ends of the spectrum. If I am showing a $2M home it fits in fine, also I can show a $89,000 mobile and it still fits in just fine.

I'm the same way. I like to drive paid for cars and drive the doors off of them. It does not affect me because I only do bpos and I spend a lot of time in rural areas or in inner city areas.

What about sport cars? I drive a 2014 SS Camaro. Great car but no back room. Thinking of getting a 2nd car for room and better MPG

You might benefit from going back to the beginning of this thread 7 years ago and read the posts of those who've had Sports Cars.

I think even I reported on my experience using a Toyota Mid-Engine MR2 Two Seater for Real Estate in the early 1990s.

2010 Toyota Prius for me. Averaging 38.9 miles a gallon currently but I speed like a racehorse. No maintenance issues and it's been 4 years already. Purchased it used with 23,000 miles and just about to hit 90,000. Terrific workhouse and love the hatchback!

i always buy used Car. i cant rationalize a new car price.
If your car is clean, looks good(not expensive but looks good) and smells nice that is all you usually really need.

I'm in Santa Monica where everyone judges you by your car. People spend more money on their car payments here than they do in rent.

I looked into getting a BMW 340i but the idea of putting all the miles on that beauty made me baulk. Even claiming actual expenses on my car wouldn't be enough to justify that buy.

Anyone have a sensible, semi-luxurious, suggestion that won't break the bank?

Never buy a new car. Buy a one or two year old car with 15k or so miles on it. That is where the good buys are.

After flipping my house And getting My new house, the bank forced me to buy 2 new cars at the last minute. I have a new Mazda CX-5 and a Jeep Renegade paid off.

Just a guess, but I would think 80% of us take the IRS standard mileage rate as the auto deduction on our tax returns. How about you?
Mileage Rate
--or--
Actual Expenses

Which do you use? Interested in seeing your replies. Thanks --

I do the mileage deduction. I do have a second vehicle but it seems like less hassle to go the mileage route.

I never made the actual expenses method of deduction work. My best guess is that it would be for low-mileage driving with high costs of operation (tolls, maintenance, registration). The standard mileage deduction has always given me the greater deduction.

I drive a Mazda 2 and I love it! She never had serious problems even though she's already 4+ years old.
