Management fees, technology fees, processing fees, semantics... I haven't had one agreement yet that uses the word referral in regards to the fee. These agreements aren't written by their attorneys just to keep 'em busy. Oh, with that I agree, but funny thing about real state commissions is that they feel the same way. Call it anything you want - if it is paid out of closing as a percentage of the sales price or gross commission - I just wonder how that passes muster with the various state REC, just a thought. Do you know the email address of your real estate commission?

In most states, you can pay a referral fee to any entitiy that is licensed in a state, even if it's not your state.
Usually the referral agreement comes with the pre-list package. If you don't send it back, you don't get the property.
I look at these just like a peer to peer referral. If I didn't pay the referral, I wouldn't have the business. So 75 or 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing.
By the way, we usually see the referral fees directly on the HUD-1, so you aren't writing a check after the closing.
