Hello everyone!

My name is Christine, and I live in Portland, Oregon. This spring, I'm starting the pre-education credits for my Oregon Broker License (the Oregon version of a saleperson's license) at my local community college. However, it seems like every Real Estate company's website has a link to Oregon-based OnlineEd.com for people seeking Real Estate Careers. Should I consider it instead? Both schools are approved by the State of Oregon, but one is a more traditional institution and the other is a much less-expensive vocational school. Both offer classes completely online.

Can anyone who has completed training like that offered by OnlineEd's recommend it? Or is community college the way to go? In your opinion, which one has the better education?

Thanks for any tips you can share!

--Christine

I can't speak for your state specifically, but my broker told me that any of the class/online options will prepare me for the licensing exam. I ended up going with the less-expensive option online (Real Estate School Online)and had no problem passing the state/national licensing exam.

I think that the answer to your question is what setting are you more comfortable learning in?

Some people are more motivated by getting up and going to class every day. Others prefer to do their reading and course work in their PJs at the kitchen table.

Pick the one that you think will help you succeed the most.

Thank for the responses, guys! Originally I was leaning towards community college. Now, since I was planning to take the courses online anyway, I'm thinking maybe I prefer the online vocational school. I guess that a more traditional approach to education -- the community college route -- just sounded more respectable to me.

But really, does it matter? As long as I can pass my exams, is anyone going to be interested in how I got my education, as long as my coursework hours are okay with my state?

The online courses will teach you what you need to pass the test. The in-person schools will probably teach you a little more about what you need to know in the day-to-day course of business. That extra knowledge will help, but isn't anything you can't pick up through a good trainer/mentor after you've breezed through the online classes and passed the test.

It's all about preference.

I am licensed in Oregon and Washington and I went online to ProSchools. One thing I pleasantly noticed is ProSchool's review questions darn near matched the questions on the Oregon test. I would highly recommend them. Good luck!
