I am a newer investor. I have never filed a tax return including rental income, expenses, etc. I would like to ask someone to do me a huge favor: Would someone be willing to scan in and email me copies of their 2004 (or earlier) tax return with all schedules, etc.? Of course you should block out your name and any other personal information! I just think that this would be EXTREMELY helpful. I will not have to do this type of tax return until next year, but I am very interested in learning all there is to know right away. I'm pretty sure that I know how to do everything necessary, but I would love to be able to look at an actual complete example.

Go to irs.gov and download a copy of Schedule E and the instruction for it. It will tell what you need to know.

Of course you can buy Turbo Tax for $40 or so. You can get an anti-virus software for free, which is usually the cost of the anti-virus. And usually bundled with that is the state tax software.

Hire a CPA or a good tax attorney. (The latter is better.)
