Business.com, realestate.com, cars.com, babies.com ...they all have something in common. Those are domains that are so simple and related to something in real life that people will go it just because of the name. The ROI makes sense.
The difference here is branded or recognizable domains versus unbranded and unknown names. I searched again and found tons of "FireIsland" domains that can all be popular, but none are popular enough that they're already recognizable.
Should we sell domains for more than what we paid? Absolutely. It's a free enterprise.
Should we buy domains when they are unbranded and no one would recognize their value unless we create value? Absolutely...as long as the ROI makes sense.

tsk tsk, and this comes from those who sell overpriced real estate to retired elderly folks, just so they dont suffer from chronic arthritis, and want to be in a warmer climate in the winter.
i wouldnt buy the name myself, however, if you consider what you are really saying, and consider what real estate is, and think of the real estate giants, is that just what they done, bought something for next to nothing, jacked the price up and made a profit. and for the post who said they were not doing real estate for an income, "BS", you want to help people invest, so you are going to do that for free. otherwise you are doing it for profit, just like the fella buying the 8 dollar domain and offering it for sale for 25 bux, that is exactly like real estate, a commodity. not in the same price range granted, but the same from my viewpoint.
holla,

sorry site tutor; quoting from the post i was mentioning, actually it was random rambling which i do pretty good. lol
Dee In Austin "I don't do real estate to just make a buck. I didn't have to do it and am leaving a well paying job because I'd like to help people invest. If I wanted to make a buck, I'd just stay at my current job since it's more secure."
thats funny to me. be like the doc who spends his time going to med school, and says well i wanna work off the back of the trash truck. i spent my 6 yrs in college, enormous amount of money.
well yall just more of my rambling.

Still not sure what you're getting at. Spending 3 weeks in real estate school is hardly comparable to going to med school. I could have done the test in my sleep.
I initially got my license to invest and had no intention of being an agent. I'm leaving my very wonderful job at Apple Computer so I can go help people. The easiest "buck" is to stay where I am with great benefits, friends, bosses, and pay.

quite frankly enough said. three weeks, in my opinion could not even basically teach the bare essentials on how to guide on how to invest in dime store candy, muchless the real estate market.
best of luck in your career transition.

I think it is more adventageous to use a domain that is impossible to screw up, no matter how long the domain is. People pay for these short and sweet domains, when in reality, as long as your domain name is simple enough that there is no deviation in the spelling, you will be just fine. I like to search nsi.com for the most popular domain names + one extra word thrown in the mix. I'm still waiting for The Donald to make an offer on the domain I bought, www.TrumpTowersVegas.com He is using www.trumptowerslv.com Which is better? Try mixing up variations of your top choice and you'll find that there are tons available, it just takes a little persistence! Happy Hunting

I hope I'm not opening another can of worms here...
The two names I original posted have been sold. But I've got another one:
