This is my first shot at putting up a major web site. I used the open-realty.org engine and a template off the open-realty forum. All the mods were done with the help of Paul at pbflash@optonline.com and a lot of frustration. I need help in several areas - first as a new webmaster (that's a joke) I would like ask you folks that have been around for a while offer some input on my site. Second, I'm going be at a loss promoting the site. I have a lot of agent waiting to sighup. Any advise will be appreicated

Jackson, are you looking to bring in other brokers from South Padre Island? So that you have many brokers on the island putting listings on your site? Or is it intended to be the site of just C21 Sand Dollar? Also not sure of the purpose of the site since the "About Us" seems to target brokers, but the site targets buyers/renters, correct?

On home page, not sure why you have text highlighted in blue and/or italics either, at first I thought they were links, best to keep it uniform and only indicate links with highlight, just a minor point.

And it's not clear why I should "register" - so I can have a "favorites" page? If you want to track or ID visitors, or keep them in a database for future emails or whatever, you need some reason for them to register - reports, to view listings, etc. For example, if you're handling rentals, you want to know who's coming to your site, since they are probably repeat customers - and you want to market to them consistently so they keep renting from you. Find a vehicle to do that like a form that collects and IDs that visitor as a renter vs. buyer.

However, if you're handling listings for multiple brokers, this kind of tracking becomes more difficult to handle. That's why I asked at the outset - who's the audience, who are your "customers" and what's the purpose of the site?

Just a couple points I noticed right off.

Sue

Jackson,
I was trying to look at the source code of the html, but I am not able to. Did you do something to prevent me from seeing the code?
I am working on my own RE website, and could use all the help I can get.

Thanks,
jessforce

Hi Jackson,

The site looks good.

For optimizing your site you are going to have to look at the title tags on your pages. These make one of the biggest differences to how your website ranks on the search engines. Target each page to one or two real estate keywords for your local area. Try to use this text throughout the page.

Another big factor is getting links from other websites to yours with relevant content. 'Relevant' meaning content that also is dealing with real estate and preferrably in your area.

One note - I don't know if it was just me but I seemed to have to click on the navigation links twice in order for them to send me to the destination.

Hope things go well!

Google Custom Forum Search

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
