I put up a list of search engine friendly directories that are dedicated to real estate related web sites. Please let me know if you are aware of directories that should be added or if you take issue with any that are listed.

To be included they have to be dedicated to real estate related sites, have rewritten urls and use straight text links (no redirects or scripted links).

Thanks for having a look.

Do you know much traffic these directories generate on average?

My experience has been that directories, in general, generate almost no traffic. The benefit of being listed in a respected topical directory is the related back links and PR to improve your search engine rankings.

Just a note about the directories list: We've added the ability for users to add search engine friendly directories themselves so if you own a real estate directory with rewritten urls and straight text links please feel free to submit.

The sites focus should be the directory and not a directory on a typical real estate site.

You can also now sort the list by home page pr, listing page pr, clicks away from home, etc.

That's very interesting -- Heretofore I had basically given backlinks and PageRank very little importance in my promotional efforts.

Page Rank is an odd thing. For example, http://MilitaryHomeCenter.com has a PR of 4, yet it's in the top 3 in Google, Yahoo and MSN for "military relocation directory".

When it comes to link exchange, the only 2 rules should be whether it's in the same genre and if the link page is indexed in the search engines.

MilitaryHomeCenter.com should be in your directory since it is a veterans-only directory of Real Estate Agents, Lendors and Property Managers.

StarFire, I agree to some extent that the primary factors should be that the sites are related and that the page is indexed in search engines, but do feel that pr is still an important factor in getting your site crawled regularly.

Unfortunately we won't be able to add it to the list as the similar colored page text at the bottom raises questions about the SE's terms of service, and the focus doesn't appear to be the listing of agents web sites and services.

If you can tell me how to get to the agents list I'll be glad to look. It might just be the display in firefox is a bit jumbled so I could be missing it.

Thank you for the suggestion though.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however.
