Find sites that are doing well in search engines themselves (nationwide realtors) and place their site on your resources page and have them do the same.

Also, try to get local non-real estate sites to link to you. Those sites will help validate you in the search engines for the areas that you service. The real estate sites nationwide will help you get recognized for real estate.

That is from my experience with clients' real estate web sites.

If you are having a page created, have it created without parameters... they work "better"... most search engines do now index them, but since you will be creating one, create it without parameters and don't use the word "link" in it.

http://www.johnhomesonline.com/real_estate_resources.html

would be better then

http://www.johnhomesonline.com/PageManager/Default.aspx/PageID=1217864&NF=1

The second URL doesn't "tell" the search engines what your page is about. All this goes with SEO...

Anything is better then nothing... it's hard to get your website to the top of search engines for the first year or two anyway, so just get online and get that clock ticking.

Then as time, money and knowledge permits, build your new website that can score high in the search engines.

Hello,
I just ran the abarcar.org bot over your site
Nothing was indexed by the bot after reading the robots.txt file. You have a crawl-delay of 300 in the file and ban YahooSeeker.
Do not think bots will wait 5 minutes to proceed with the next page.
This crawl delay was initiated for Yahoo Slurp but as it is set for all robots and might keep others from indexing your site.
Ran the abarcar.org bot again after waiting for 5 minutes but site is already stored as 'spidered, nothing else to do'

abarcar.org runs in experimental mode and was reset a few days back

If I do a lot of updating to my webpage how long does it take for search engines to pick up on this new information or what do i need to do to get them to pick up on it.

Thanks

They will get it when they get it! If you have an active site, it will be spidered by search engines quite often. I have some sites that are spidered daily, or every other day. Others that are not frequently updated are spidered much less frequently. I just saw one that hadn't been spidered in 13 months. You can submit to Google, MSN and Yahoo... theoretically that will speed up process, but who knows? With Google, make sure you are participating in the Sitemaps program, That will probably help a lot.

http://www.tuscaloosaweb.com/directory/realestate.htm would be a good start to get your site on Google. I am a Don Meredith's new search engine specialist. I think you all ready have some ideas how to get your site ranked as you published your information on a forum ranked at PR5. Wanted to wish you well with your SEO. You should not have a problem putting your site on top of Google for the key phrases Tuscaloosa Real Estate or Tuscaloosa realtors. Use these key phrases 6 times in your text at the beginning of paragraphs or as headers. One at the beginning of the page and one at the end. Use in headers 1,2,3. Use in 2 image tags alt="", use in Title and Description meta tags, use in keyword. Get a domain with Tuscaloosa Real Estate or Tuscaloosa realtors in it. Do not worry about submitting your site to Google they will find it. When you use links from other sites use the key phrases as text with the link pointing to your website- Tuscaloosa Real Estate or Tuscaloosa Realtors . Make sure you have approx 500-750 words on your front page. Oh yeah get a few PR5 links and higher to your site then get others to link to your site. Start a link page for other cities and states. Be patient and set time each week to add links. Change the a little content on your front page once a month. Get linked in DMOZ OR hirer an expert.

Here's a place where you can check out other sites linking to yours. Could come in handy when you're evaluating the link pop for your site.
