Does anyone have a list of real estate directory sites that allow you to add your site link for free without having to reciprocate?

I would be careful when using anything like these. Search engines can see these as FFA (free for all) link sites, and actually harm your ratings.

There are no short cuts to getting high quality in-bound links. SPEND THE TIME and energy and don't look for short cuts... it will be well worth the investment!

iREagent,

That's not true. Google will NEVER heart your rankings by finding your link on someones website. If that was true I could place links of my competitors onto directories that were banned by google or place them just about everywhere bad and I would be able to get them banned.

Having said that, you should take every backlink you can get. And the ones that are more relevant to your site are better then the ones that are not.

"Google will NEVER heart your rankings by finding your link on someones website."

This is really still not proven, or dis-proven. There are many heated aguments in the SEO forums about this. Actually a couple of people are trying this... they are taking a site with a fair PR, and slapping links all over these FFA sites. Time will tell if this is true or not.

But, why do it? Even if these FFA links don't hurt you, why spend the time if they don't help you? Why not spend the time and energy to get good quality in-bound links that will greatly benefit you?

I'm not looking for hundreds of links or anything like that which could be dangerous to get mixed up with. I'm just looking for a few good directories. For example, I used www.thesnare.com for a few months but they recently started charging for their service.

I'm going to get the ball rolling \:D One that I'm currently using is www.Real-Estate-Directory.biz which is completely free and doesn't require and reciprocal link. Does anyone else have a similar type of directory they can recommend?

Russ, You can submit your link to http://www.ourdir.com.

iREagent, I'm not saying anyone should spend their time adding their sites to directories that are not relevant to their website. I'm saying a backlink will not heart you at all even if it comes from a site that was banned by Google or a site that is not relevant to your site.

You will get that vote from Google even if the link is comming from a site that is not relevant but if you have a link comming from a site that is relevant then you get a better vote. Sites which are banned from Google will not pass any rankings.

My 2 cents ;\)

This is actually very proven. From Google's site:

Fiction:

A competitor can ruin a site's ranking somehow or have another site removed from Google's index.

Fact:

There is almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index. Your rank and your inclusion are dependent on factors under your control as a webmaster, including content choices and site design."

So the above poster was right, I, nor you, can ruin a site by submitting it to banned directories or sites.

Why does everyone only refer to Google when search engine talks come up? Hello... there are other search engines out there. \:\)

Yes, currently google is the 300 pound gorilla, but don't forget about the "other" search engines.

And what is true today, probably won't be true tomorrow. Just do it right and you want have to worry...

Everyone is forgetting an important thing about linking---getting traffic. If the link isn't considered "important" by google but you get good traffic, who cares? After all, traffic is the name of the game.

We've gone way off course The whole point of this topic was to share lists of real estate directory sites that allow you to add your site link for free without having to reciprocate.

I started the ball rolling with www.Real-Estate-Directory.biz Does anyone else have a similar type of directory they can recommend?

Google has made a few changes to its filters in the past few months that contradicts this statement. 302 Redirects can have nasty consequences for your web site. It happened to one of our clients that had a link to their site from a major real estate directory.

Google began dropping hundreds of static HTML pages with original content. Google verified our problem, and removed the dupe content penalty within a few weeks. Now all of the pages are back in the index, and traffic is back to normal. The RE directory in question has stated that they are looking into the problem. In the meantime, we had them remove our links.

Oddly enough, we did not lose our top Google rankings for the primary keyword set even with the loss of pages. However, hundreds of top ranked secondary phrases (local residential communities, etc) were in the tank, and the client temporarily lost about 30% of their normal Google traffic.

Google Custom Forum Search

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
