I just posted the above link - another of many articles, to my real estate web site. Please read it carefully and pass it along to all your friends and colleagues.

Perhaps it will clarify a much needed topic of discussion.

When we contract a new client, they must sign off on a section involving copyright laws and acknowledges their responsibility for all material that they submit to us for use in their web site. If they want to illegally include copyrighted material they are made of the situation well before their site goes on line.

I run my site and the sites of my clients through Copyscape every month. Recently I found someone - who posts on this forum no less - that copied works from my own site.

After I sent an email to them they re-worded the ad copy. Unfortunately, that's not good enogh. Derivative works are also a violation of copyright law.

You can read more about copyright law and the internet at this site: http://www.keytlaw.com/Copyrights/copyrightlaw.htm

Thanks for this valuable contribution to the forum, Golf Guy. Perhaps read the posts at the forum designation called "Agents and Brokers." Lots of valuable information is there also, on this topic, posted in reply to my original.

I often find great articles that I reprint on some of my websites or weblogs. Let's face it I know that I may not be the best writer and others get points across better than me.

Anytime I use content written by someone else I get the article for either GoArticles.com or EzineArticles.com and in doing this I make sure that the byline of the original writer is published online directly uncder the article. This is a very important thing to do for the writer, people publish articles online so that they will get syndicated across the internet and give them exposure, their websites exposure and best of all more backlinks to their articles to the search engines making their home pages rank that much higher.

Along the same lines I make sure that I write and post articles of original content weekly to the major article directories on a range of topics that I have interest in.

The question is not always whether you are using someone elses content but if you are also contributing content to the internet, adding to the collective that we all draw from and getting the advantages that writing good quality articles that other people may learn from or use.
