unless your visitors give you thier email addys, there is no way of knowing them. And if you don't have them 'opt in' to a mailing list, your on the slippery slope.

Welcome to the Web, you will have hits without people signing up for anything. If you think of a website as advertising then it's not a problem. People see and hear ads all the time without giving information to the advertiser. The idea is that when consumers think of a certain product or service they will remember the ad and the company.
As far as getting email addresses, think of interesting or unique products or services that would incline them to want to give it. For example, instead of the same MLS automatic email that everyone is offering, what about something better? Or maybe offer a pdf file with information on the local market. All you would have to do is assemble it in word or publisher and print it to a pdf file.

Well the technology is out there, I know because I looked at an agent's site on another forum and they next day I get an email thanking me for visiting his site and asking for a link exchange. Kind of creeped me out and I didn't respond. I think most people would feel the same way. Its a violation of privacy.

The only technology that provides an email address associated with a server address is an unscrupulous ISP. Change yours immediately.
An email directed at your server address may end up in your default box. But you'll have set that up on account creation, or in your server software.

I highly recommend NOT grabbing people's e-mail addresses if they don't specifically give them to you... you will just piss people off (or creep them out as deepsea said). If you're not getting leads then there is something wrong with your site and what it is offering. I would very much recommend updating your site, I hate to be blunt but it looks like something about 10 years old. There is so much text there (which is great for the search engines) it is too busy to see what you really offer. Try putting some buttons on your site that offer services the consumer actually wants...if you offer it, they will give their e-mail addresses.

Hi,
If you'd like to publish a newsletter and keep in touch with your web site visitors, check out a few different services such as constantcontact.com or aweber.com
They will help you create a list of people who actually opt-in and want to receive communication from you. I do not recommend subscribing people who did not subscribe themselves.

JT...your are not capturing leads because you are giving them no reason to leave their info. A newsletter might be on way, but there are many other ways to entice prospects to put in their info.
Your website copy (content) could use some tweaking to motivate propescts.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
