I have been doing a lot of research on seo & pay per click. I currently do pay per click but would like to be on the 1st page of the "organic results" on yahoo & google.

I am going to start by adding links to other websites and other Realtors in different states. I have also started adding to my name to free directories, craigslist & that sort of stuff. This will help right? Am I better off not paying for pay per click and to put that money towards someone who knows how to do seo placement?

Any other info would be appreciated.

It can take a very long time for even the best SEO'd site to rise to the top 10 in Google - especially in your market area. Having other sites link to you is a good place to start - have a look at this post for what to look for to ensure that a link will have some value.

Stopping PPC and budgeting all of your money to SEO is probably not a good idea as SEO can take a very long time to begin paying off. If you still want to be getting traffic and leads while waiting for the SEO to kick in you will need to maintain the PPC as well.

Adding a lot of quality articles on your site does help as well. Especially after the recent updates, it looks as though Google likes sites with a lot of pages.

Yes, there are some sites out there with tools you can use to do that. Try http://www.googlerankings.com/ for one.

Kendall,

You are correct to want to pursue organic results.

Please realize that it takes a good deal of concentrated effort to do it right.

You need to focus on:
Content
Optimization
Link Popularity

Also, find terms where your local competitors are not optimizing. That could be suburbs, neighborhoods, street, even specific subdivisions.

Be sure you are using anchor text on your back links. I think however your website isnt very search engine friendly as it is. You can seo it, but your structure will increase the amount of seo you need.

Actualy I just looked at your source code. Im sorry but you should clean that up alot. You'll have an easier time ranking.

Make it clean and simple code. Im not even sure the way that is if a all SE's can read your content.

If you right click on your page and view source you will notice that the verbiage on your page, next to your picture, is non existent. It is debatable and im sure someone else might offer a differing opinion, but you might want to get rid of that inner page where the scroll bar is, it is going to effect your SEO. Put all that info on the main page. Your meta tags are problematic also.

I think a spider sees a blank page when looking at your site.
You pretty much want your code to look like this (basic per your needs) I had to leave out the true html tags as per posting restrictions, but somewhat like this:

HTML
HEAD
Your meta tag will go here
HEAD
BODY
Content Here
BODY
HTML

Of course the question remains if that is even possible with the type of tool you used for building your site. I think that the software you used is the main problem.

Before I closed this response I went to: http://www.1-hit.com/all-in-one/tool.search-engine-viewer.htm
Which is a spider simulator. If you type in your url you will see what I mean about the invisability of your site.

Can you tell me what software you used for making the site?

It is a template site through imagepro.

It is a very long process. Essentially, what my company, www.Homes.com will do for you is set you up with a proper website that will be recognized by Google, Yahoo, MSN. What they do is rate your website for relevant content, etc..... This can be very time consuming and costly is you do pay per click. And if you don't have someone bidding for your keywords and knowledgeable of what key words will get you proper placement then it won't work...... Homes.com will do it for you for one monthly fee that encompasses everything as well as have a team of people who will monitor everything for you.

Be careful about using googlerankings.com. It can hurt your page rank. See below straight from Google:

Fiction: Automated "rank checking" programs are a good way for webmasters to save time and measure their online presence.

Fact: Automated rank checking programs violate Google's Terms of Service. They use server resources that should be spent on answering user requests. We strongly request that you not use rank checking programs to check your position on Google.

her is the link to the page so you can read more helpful hints from Google:

The automated rank checking issue has been exhaustively discussed at various seo forums over the years and from my recollection the consensus was that Google penalized those that were checking hundreds and thousands of times a day. The sites being checked were not penalized - the IP of the checker was blocked to prevent them from using Google. There is no site penalty for using automated rank checking.

Shes definatly going to need to get rid of that frame if she hopes to accomplish anything. Its to bad becuase its a nice looking website. Im suprised that imagepro makes pages like that.

She might be better off having that for PPC and starting another one for organic

You're absolutely correct. That's why Google allows you to sign up for the API to develop or use tools for rank checking.

You're correct about the IP address ban as well. After all, how could a search engine know what site you are looking for? If they could, wouldn't that be a great way to ban your competitors?

You can also use www.rumbletool.com to see what your competition is doing and how you stack up against them in the engines. After you register the first time you can use it for free.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however.
