How can that be? Google is all about off-page factors like link popularity and the keywords used in the clickable part of links that point at your web site. The more links you have with your keywords in the link text - the higher you will appear on Google.

Unlike other real estate forums found elsewhere, all of the message pages in the Agents Online Real Estate Idea Center are static html pages that are regularily spidered by the search engines. So, if you insert a link in your signature to a message and do it in such a way that your keywords are in the link text - you will be on your way to being #1 for those keywords. The more you participate in these forums - the higher your search positions will become. You gotta like that!

Real estate forums found elsewhere on the web use scripting languages where the message pages can't be spidered - so you really get more benefit from your participation here!

To insert a link in your signature that would appear at the end of your message postings, you can use html code -
which would look like this

and in the message would appear like Real Estate Discussion Forums

These forums also allow you to make links using UBB code but I do not know whether search engines would treat those links the same - so I would recommend using html.

*A Warning! Do not spam the forums with useless drivel or post the same message in more than one forum as all of your postings will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned. Then you will receive no benefit from your links!

P.S: Some toplists only steal your traffic or promote their own real estate web sites..

Troy, the links out from that site do nothing to help a member with their link popularity because the links are written using scripting that makes search engines think it is an internal link - eg. http://www.toprealestates.com/out.php?id=13

Search engines can not follow that link and never find the target site. The "?" in the url stops search engine spiders cold.

I deleted my original reply "great idea" as it appeared to be responding to Troy's post. We must have posted the same time, as I was replying to the Admin post. Doug is 100% corect.

Perhaps you can explain how a forum in a frameset that utilizes a target="_blank" to pop open a new window counts as a backlink in Google.

Perhaps the statement was made out of ignorance but I have checked the backlinks of many members and agents online does not show in any of them.

There is a program in place which allows the forums to be spidered and http://www.agentsonline.net currently has almost 5000 pages in Google - which includes all but the newest forum messages.

When viewing backlinks in Google only pages with a PR of 4 or higher are generally displayed (although lately Google has been displaying PR 3 pages on occasion as the ToolBar PR is probably not as accurate as we all once presumed) - and forum pages would not be listed as most would be less than PR 4. Google counts all backlinks - not just those it chooses to display when checking backlinks - so the links from forum messages help you.

You should be aware that PR means little post Florida - lots of PR 4 sites are #1 in results and lots of PR 7 are #200. Having your keywords in your link text is still important though.

Links from any page that is listed in Google will help you regardless of what the PR is. And you get the maximum benefit if you use your keywords in the link text.

As a "SEO Guy" I am surprised that you do not know this

Here is an example. In a previous post your client Wayne used the sig "Your Hottest Source For Las Vegas Real Estate Buying and Selling!" as the link text. Now, if you search Google for that phrase that particular posting comes up in the Google results - click here to see.

So, not only is Google listing the forum postings but they are spidering the links which all helps you as I was saying in the original posting.

What is your problem? Posts like that are absolutely ridiculous and do zero for the good of the rest of the members. If you ever get your forum off the ground, which I doubt you will, you will start to understand that making comments like this do no good and are not in the best interest of your members!

It is one thing to ask a question but to say a comment was made out of ignorance on a public forum is B.S.

If you have a beef with Doug, fine, e-mail him directly, or ask questions on the board properly but don't post crap like that on this board

First of all the it was a question as to why it was coded that way. Second you have no idea who Seo-Guy is LOL.

Check all the webmaster and Seo Forums and ask about this guy ( dont just take my word for it ). LOL he is one of the top SEO's in the world and this is not just my opinion..this is the opinion of a lot of people in that profession... his peers.

You know we all know that some o f the information that we all get off this site is good...but just like a lot of sites there is a lot of BS here and in order to help keep the site honest ..you have to ask questions like this..if someone is wrong then so be it it wont be the first time or the last some of us maybe wrong.

The problem I have is when you slam someone for a comment. There is always someone out there who knows a lot more then we do and sometimes you have to open your mind to consider what they are saying breseminars.

I personally like Doug..I dont always agree with what he has to say ( I dotn go and slam him because I dont like what he is saying ) but there are certain people that we all would listen to over others and Seo-Guy happens to be one of those I would listen to about the web over any other forum.

He has proven to me what he is able to do...not just with my site but every site he touches turns to gold and when it comes to clients well Big Named Companies dont use just anyone to do their Seo work. It is not my place to answer for Seo-Guy but I do take offense of your remarks.

Maybe next time before you make a remark about someones abilities you should find out if you know what you are talking about.

What I was looking for was how it worked as I went through at least 50 of the pages listed in Google (Granted not all 5000) and could not find a reference to a forum post anywhere.

As yes I am well aware that all backlinks count as votes for a site as long as they are spiderable that PR has a less prominent role then pre florida in fact I just wrote an article to a client stating that these are your offpage factors in priority

This is exactly why people do guestbooking and blogging still, the algo cannot do any more then slap a diminished return on the backlink, it can't discount it as it's architecture does not allow for it.

Thanks for all the help on this forum, I've been lurking dilligently here lately. If you bother to click the link you'll find a pretty but simple and all image site that doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Googleland...that's getting fixed ASAP. Fact is the broker wasn't ready for many leads, just wanted something to show off. Now I'm coming on board and we're getting to work... the info on this forum has been a big help.

In order to have your sig automatically put in to your postings you have to fill in the signature field - with your signature - in your User Preferences and you have not done that. You can manually attach your sig to each post or edit your User Preferences to have it inserted automatically
