Yes, people want to see listings...but what do you need? You need visitors to leave their info or your website amounts to nothing more than a billboard.
Visitors also need to know about more things then listings. As I said...every realtor site out their provides listings. If your site is targeted to buyers, then you should have loads of info that addresses the buyer's wants, needs and fears. You cannot tap into the emotion of a buyer with a map.
You either want to convert prospects to leads or you don't. If you don't, then there is nothing wrong with a map on the homepage.
P.S. The map on the homepage also destroys the SEO of the site.
