I was taking an exterior for a company that wanted all sides of the house, so i got out, and a guy came out of the house wearing boxers and a wife beater, and he was waiving a bat at me. I was very close to the car, so i just got in and left. He called the number on the back of my car about 3 minutes later, and i told him i was just doing a valuation for the bank, he seemed to know if was coming...

I was spotted (in my car) doing a drive-by a couple weeks ago. Guess I wasn't paying attention in my rear-view mirror on the way home, because the homeowner followed me all the way there (about 8 miles) to ask me why I was photographing his house. That's a first for me. Fortunately, he was satisfied with my explanation. That was spooky!!!

Have you noticed the ones that get out of their car always have just a few posts? I wonder how long they stand there taking the pictures.

I get out of the car all the time - I take photos around 11am-1pm. People tend to be out of the house, on errands. Most places I go to there is no one there...seasonal area. There was one, supposed to be on a lockbox, but was occupied by a bunch of cars, RVs from "oregon"-figured owners rented but didn't tell them the bank was coming, the guy was out working on his RV and did stare at me as I circled the cul de sac. I just went back the next late morning when no one was there. I live in kind of a rural area, so I think the owners don't think the bank out West is going to locate their house....sometimes there are no #'s on the house...
no street signs - just arrows and dirt roads. Follow the pink arrow to one place; the red arrow to another and so on...makes it interesting.

yes cool broker, i am new to the board, but have completed over 330 bpos, so that makes me not as new, right? Actually I usually pack the heat when I go out for BPOs.... And always when I go to take back an REO...

Me too. I can count the number of times I have gotten out of my car for an exterior order on one hand and I've done thousands of BPOs.

I'm with you when you made the statement about getting out of the car. As a last resort I will leave my vehicle. I'm working on buying a new camera that has a 100 to 1 zoom lens. It will also have to have the feature to where I can take a picture of the back of the house while standing out front...lol

On the serious side now....I'm changing my attire while doing BPO's (at least during the cooler months). I have this jacket I was wearing two years ago, had on my black cap and wearing my aviator sun glasses....three teenagers came up to me and asked me if I was a cop.....now, we all know teenagers are smarter than adults (if you don't believe me, just ask one). I also drive a black SUV.....sooooooo, I thought, what the heck, let's give it a try.

As for packing heat as some postings indicated....think I'll pass on that one.....the idea of free room and board the rest of my life just doesn't entice me being I'm from old school... shoot first and ask questions later...

Of course, I could just be one cow short of a herd, know what I mean?

That's why I'm happy I live in a gated community. Hit the clicker and I'm home free!

Most folks are not even aware when my photos person takes a photo. Rest the camera on the edge of the door and use the LED in the back to line it up. As far as getting out of the car is concerned that's just looking for a confrontation.

I always explain on the bpo. It's in a gated community,or I take a pic of the no trespassing sign on private property,or no side shot available. They take it everytime.
