I am in the process of finding a home to buy and came accross tax sales, was wondering if someone would explain how they work. I read in the same paper that it would free of liens.

Varies from state to state and even county to county.You can read free books at barnes and noble at the real estate section to get you started.Also go to the county tax assesors office and they usually have a booklet that's free that will explaint he local process.

usually for tax sales and foreclosure auctions if you fill out the paperwork and have the cash you do not have to be an agent to purchase.

These are a doozy! Make sure you are not too emotionally invested in any one until AFTER you get it. SO many things can happen to have them fall through. It can also get a little hairy when they're occupied...

I'm actually looking into throwing my hat in the ring for a few properties this way in the near future. I have more than one of interest because of the above.

Tax sales are way too specific per county/state for anyone to give accurate info here. I made an appointment with my real estate attorney and he went through the whole process with me. I suggest you do the same if you are really interested. It may be necessary to Quiet Title, serve notices, etc. so a real estate attorney is your best bet for getting the info.
