Does anyone use a portable printer for their laptop? I'm considering getting one. That way I don't have to keep running back to the office to write offers etc. By the way, I'm too lazy to write them by hand.
Let me know.
Thanks, Cliff

Thanks Jeff, I think HP makes a pretty good one too. I think I'll take the plunge this week.

Just got a tablet PC with a wireless internet card, Now I am looking for an inexpensive program that will let someone sign a contract with the stylus on the screen. Our contract software prints in Pdf format. Then I can simply email it to the Buyer and Listing agent and bypass paper entirely. So far I have found a program for $49 that will do it, anyone know of one any cheaper?

If your not willing to go with the lower quality, you can make a VERY usable portable office.
The portable office I put together was done using slightly dated tech. But here it is:
- In car transformer so that I can plug in devices. Runs off of the cigarette lighter in the cargo area of my car. - HP LaserJet Printer (Smallest is currently the 1018). - Wireless router. Lets me connect to devices in my car wirelessly. Why? Write up contracts in the clients house at their dinner table. Click print, and I get printouts in the car - in laser printed quality.
This actually worked well for me. I could write contracts up and print them while out in the middle of nowhere if needed. We could pop open my laptop, write up the offer in WinForms then print it out and sign it.
The one downside to my little portable office is that I have to leave the clients to get the papers before they have signed. To deal with that, I would usually have them walk with me out to the car while we talked about deal details. I never like leaving my clients until I have a signature.
I like the idea of a portable printer, but found them problematic in practice. It has been a couple of years since I first looked into the technology tho - new portable printers may be working much better.
No matter what portable office you put together, ALWAYS augment it with at least 3 copies of each important form (Listing agreement, purchase agreement, addendums, sellers disclosure, etc.). You don't need everything, but if your system fails, you want to have the most important forms ready.

Cliff Users reported paper feeding problems with the HP portable. Several said that it stopped working within a year. Check out CNET for details.....

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
