Well, that's one of those "million dollar" questions. I am usually economically oriented when making equipment purchases. That's because the tools I need as a home inspector are usually based on well-established technology. Older technology tends to make competing products very similar to one another.

In the case of drones, we are looking at an emerging technology which is improving every day. There is a very solid "toy" drone market, and I've seen some nice images captured from toy-grade units. However, I would never rely on non-professional equipment for any part of my business success. For me, the "best drone for the money" is also limited to drones I consider viable.

If I were to go out shopping today, I would probably purchase a model from DJI or Parrot. They strike me as serious competitors interested in the business market.

If you move ahead with a purchase, I'm sure we would all love to see you post a review of how well it fits our industry. I know I would.

Good luck with your considerations.

Drones in the real estate market is expected to boom, well drones in any market are going to really blow up. The real estate agents really need to adapt to this technology or you're going to be left behind.

The images and videos created from an aerial perspective really give a wow factor to your sellers and buyers. I hope more agents understand this.

It depends on the equipment. Any decent camera rental, let alone a drone rental, will cost you way more than that. But if you are just trying to snazzy up your listing photos with a cool aerial shot, then I can see the value. The property has to warrant it, though. Too many homes in my neck of the woods don't.

Can you rent drones? I don't know anyone who would rent one out or even can. Liability would be nuts to rent one out and even if you do the pilot has to be Part 107 certified to use it for commercial purposes.

I bought a DJI Mavic. They cost $1,000-$1,300 depending what accessories you get with it. It takes great photos and videos. No regrets at all.
As I hear about various drone mishaps, I sometimes wish I could know which models were observed failing. I know that the DJI Phantom series is very popular, and see them often in use. In fact, the incident I shared above involved a drone which appeared to be a Phantom. I have no idea which model, however.

I have reviewed FAA's flight rules for certified UAS pilots. I think the requirement of always have a controlled drone in sight of the pilot will be one of the hardest for home inspectors like myself to follow without fail.

Situations where a drone is safer/better than a ladder can require close-up shots which would move the drone beyond line-of-sight. This is exactly when something would tend to go wrong, of course.
Thanks For Sharing your great knowledge, I also want a drone to make some videos, can you tell me more about DJI Phantom Series.
