I love small computers, like netbooks and tablets.

I used toshiba netbook for 4 years. I had no problem with it until recently when it won't display the desktop.

So, I replaced it with Acer. I haven't used this brand ever since. Any feedback about Acer?

I have had 2 Toshibas, and am still using both. My wife has had two and my mother has one. I have no complaints, but if I was to list the negatives, the battery does not do an excellent job, though it does an adequate job and they are not known for being super light.

Regarding the battery--in my 5 year old one I get about 40 mins of life off the plug. It has decreased from about 120 minutes. I have not tested the new one as it stays at home.

I got a good deal today but would rather stick a hot poker in my eye than go through that order process with Dell again.

Nice that you got a good deal. How long did you wait in line to the laptop? Just curious...

I ordered the Dell online and had it saved in my "cart" and was just waiting for Friday to see if the price would drop and it did by $220.00 and was reflected in my cart. I have a Dell business credit account and the online checkout wouldn't take my account number so I had to call....got someone in Pakistan and couldn't understand them and demanded to speak with someone in the US...got transferred to someone in the US and had to start all over again and they too couldn't take my account number and couldn't find my "cart" even when I sent the link to it...all of this of course took several hours to get me nowhere.
I finally decided to say screw it to Dell credit and went ahead and placed the order and was paying for it with my Discover Card...well guess what....the sale on the computer I had picked out was now over and it was back to full price...another 3 hours of phone calls and Dell chat but I finally got the sale price.
I guess you could say that I actually stood in line about 6 hours.

We've used Dells for years, and have had overall pretty good luck with them. The last one I bought was a stinker, though. I loved that laptop, but it died at two years old.
Most of the problems we've had have been OS related though, not hardware. I hate Windows 8 but thought Windows 7 was great. It's like Microsoft does well with every alternating version.

Laptops buy a Lenovo or a Dell. They are a little heavier but will not break at the first little bump.
You really need to do your research on the processor.
You need 6mg of level two cache to consider your computer beefy.
Think of level two cache as payload.
There are many new computers out there for $1200 that are slower than my Dell E6400 from 2009. It has the Dual Core T9900 3.06 with 6 mg of Level 2 cache.

I like Gateways and Toshiba as far a PC's go. I don't have the problems out of them that I have had with HP and Dell. Currently however, I used a macbook air. It's small and light. Easy to whip out and set up if necessary. I suggest everyone to invest in a tablet to if possibe. The amount of paper you save is worth the investment itself. The entire contract can be filled and signed right on the device then just emailed. Works for me.

Avoid anything brand name. Save yourself a bunch and just go to a reputable computer shop in your town and tell them what you want/need your computer for. However, get as much RAM and I'd opt for an SSD drive, as they make things much smoother and faster.

I use a MacBook Pro and I also have a MacBook Air. They are light, fast and stylish. The keys feel great.
