I have a question for a real estate agent. We live in a small town, my agent showed my house today and informed me the potential buyers work with my husband. I said oh what are their names? She told me it was illegal to disclose that information. Is this true? I feel like I have a right to know who enter my home, especially someone that works with my husband. I also could have easily stayed home for the showing and found out myself, so I don't really understand that. Is it true that it is against the law, her words. Thank you!

That would be a question for Florida Attorneys . . . . but I doubt that it's illegal.

However, it's not good practice to reveal who all has inquired about a property, expressed interest, attended an Open House, or asked for a private showing. People expect that their confidentiality will be observed until they act to make a Formal Offer . . . . otherwise, they can be hounded forever as to why they did not do so.

Your Agent became too enthusiastic and should not have told you that the prospective Buyers were your Husband's Co-Workers . . . . I'd venture to say she regrets volunteering that information now.

Beanie, it's basically taboo for a buyer and seller to talk to each other - that's what real estate agents are for.

Were your Realtor to tell you the name, and then you struck up a conversation with that potential buyer at your husband's workplace, things could be messy, whether they were planning to make an offer on your house or not.

It's best for both sides to work through their Realtors - prevents any accidental promises of performance. wink
