Quick question for the Canadians

Messaged a FSBO this morning on KIJIJI asking if he was paying out a buyer agent if I sold the house for him.

In his ad it said, fsbo, exclusive yada yada or something

He emails me back and says GOODLUCK, I am reporting you to the CRTC for new anti spam law.

what the heck?!

I asked a question on Kijiji for pete sakes!!!!!

I believe the law only applies to unsolicited emails. I don't think you should be worried if you used Kijiji to send your message.

The law does cover more than just email however since your "solicitation" was in response to his solicitation I would not worry about it too much.

Asking simply "are you cooperating with agents" rather than using "would you pay me if I sold the house for you" would probably be a safer route and prevent some hassles though.

Don't worry about it - you did nothing wrong.

Would the "conspicuously published" rule apply in this situation?
