Got a call today from a guy who said he was calling because he found my blog. When I asked him how he found it, he said that he did a search for foreclosure specialists in my area, and that he called me because I was the first "real" website after the results for Zillow and Trulia. It makes me chuckle to think that agents who are paying to be on those sites got skipped just because they're affiliated with the site.

The buyer happens to be part owner of a well known funeral parlor business.

Just checked out your blog and you certainly do do a good job of posting regularly - congratulations! The more you put out there, the more there is for people searching to find - people don't realise it's as simple as that.

Also, you make a good point about the guy saying you were the first 'real' website out there. It's astounding how many people don't realise that simply having your own domain name makes such a difference between looking like a professional and looking like a part-timer.

Congrats.

For the amount of time required to blog, I wonder at what point, and how many blog posts, does it becomes worth it?

Great feedback, good for you! I have no doubt that the agents who continue to generate great content and feed their blog on a regular basis will be the ones succeeding in the future while the others who are scared to learn or don't like websites will wonder what happened.

Do you guys think it's too late to get started blogging? Has that passed me by and would it be too hard to get traction at this date? Or should I roll my sleeves up and get started, but know that it will take time and effort?

Roll them up and get to blogging (and custom page building with unique and useful information targeting long-tail keywords) because it's never too late!

It is going to take a tremendous amount of time and effort but can most definitely still be done.

Good luck!

Firstly, congrats Raquel that's awesome.

It's never too late to start blogging, and it is a great way to improve your Google ranking and gain trust and credibility.

Some tips for success though:

1) Do keyword research and find keywords that are underused. You probably won't be able to compete with some of the more popular ones
2) Look at some other popular blogs from realtors and ask "What can I do do that they aren't doing?"
3) you have to be consistently adding content, and it has to be valuable content
4) To get traction you 'll have to use paid traffic to get started. There is no way around it. Facebook advertising is a great any to target specifically and get your first subscribers
5) understand that blogging is a long play. It's a long term success platform, and it won't happen overnight. It may even take a year before you see results, but if you can become popular enough, it's a way more passive way to generate leads than cold-calling or door-knocking

Never too late. Depending on your market, you may look around at your competition and realize that the market is wide open if you do it right. My property manager reached out to me about a year ago saying he couldn't find himself on Google, despite having purchased a couple of "SEO packages". I just sent him an SEO report and he was #4 within two days. Admittedly, it was the easiest market I've ever touched, but it does show how the possibilities are there.
