I have friends and colleagues nagging me about how I need to get a tablet, but I don't see how they would be useful for anything other than looking up properties. And even then, that doesn't happen often with me since I plan the showings, and never show more than three properties at a time. So I'm wondering, what do agents use tablets for?

Pull comps, show my clients what is happening in the neighborhood of the home they are looking at, and look at photos of homes from the MLS app. If your MLS has a great app I would get make the investment. Personally I like the Ipad mini since it's smaller and much lighter.

You can also use them for creating video responses to leads. Create a small video clip and then send via email or sent as a text message with the clip as a link.

You can use tablets with certain apps, such as evernote, to fill out and sign contracts. This will significantly reduce the amount of paper you'll have to use. Tablets are compact and easy to whip out when necessary. I'd say it's worth the investment

I agree. Plus clients tend to ask you about the house down the street that they seen while pulling up to the current house you are showing. Pulling out an ipad makes it much easier to give them the information. Most major real estate sites like zillow and realtor.com have very interactive apps that come in handy in a moments notice.

They are very useful for looking up properties though... Even if you just use it for that, you'd likely get a lot of use out of one.

I don't know if having a tablet is necessary for the agent, but do be aware that a lot of your clients are using tablets to look online at listings!

The National Association of Realtors 2013-14 Technology Survey Report showed that 29% of Realtors planned to purchase a tablet of some sort, and this was down from 33% the year before, so the trend with Realtors is declining.

I would be more concerned with having a responsive website for your web presence. Most things that you can do on a tablet can be handled on your smart phone or in the office.

Here's a link to the NAR study - Very interesting stuff!

Like a lot of people have said, creating quick videos is a big plus side. I like having pictures available of different types of kitchens, yards, floor plans, and stuff like that to help me gauge the clients preferences. I love taking notes as well using Evernote on my iPad, it's just a convenient way to stay organized instead of carrying a lot of documents around. I can also take pictures on the fly if needed.

Well, when I first bought my ipad ( v3 wifi only) I thought - this is stupid, I just wasted $500. I rarely used it for about 2 months, then little by little, I started using it more and more until I rarely used my PC, and then I realized it is about 95% of a laptop replacement with a billion times the mobility. You don't have to pack up tons of accessories like a mouse and power cord, and computer bag, etc, etc. you just pick it up and go. Battery life is outstanding, bluetooth keyboard is a must. You carry it around like a rigid magazine. On listing appointments all I take is my ipad and a folder with the listing agreement. Now I have an ipad 4 w/ verizon data. I definitely recommend getting built in data. As I had originally used my phone to hotspot to my ipad to save money, it is just not worth it, kills your phone battery, and the data reception of the ipad seems to be far greater from my experience. Yes, a tablet seems to me like a no brainer, who is on the go more than us? So easy to look up property on the go, etc..

I think using a tablet has its advantages. It can essentially replace everything that's printed. You can use it for listing presentations, signing contracts (electronic signatures), showing comps, etc.

Not to mention the fact that tablets are much nicer to hold than a laptop when you're sitting on your couch looking up properties.

The only time I use a tablet is during a listing presentation but I could have as well printed it. If you don't think you need it don't get it.

Yes,Agents use tablets. As In tablets they search for day to day information about property i.e. property rates are increasing or decreasing and there are many other things to search for.
