Home prices are rising and homes are selling fast. I am wondering if short sales are beginning to dry up? I was going to audit a Charfen Institute short sale class in my area and I found out it was cancelled. I am guessing there was not enough demand to fill up the class. I notice Charfen has been pushing a coaching package now because I think they also see the writing on the wall. I have also been advertising a short sale ad, which clicks through to my short sale web site, in a local community paper website for several months and have not has one lead. What do you think about the future of short sales?

There are still millions of homes that have distressed mortgages and many banks are starting to be more receptive to short sales. I don't think they are going away anytime soon. I can't see how any company can provide reliable short sale leads without violating privacy laws. You would be better served spending that money through somebody like Zillow or one of the search engines to get your name out there in front of potential short sale clients. I wouldn't pay $99.00 a month for anybodies certification.

Exactly. You can spend that money marketing yourself as a shortsale specialist and generating leads.

I question whether flaunting some of these designations can be counter-productive.

Hearing that a CDPE means that you specialize in distressed properties may cause "some" retail Sellers to conclude that they don't want their property to be handled by you or grouped with a bunch of boarded-up foreclosures because the simple association will tend to pull down their values.

So overall, it could cost you more than just the obvious $99.00.
