Alright guys here's a small recap.
Quebec is holding a general election where the people will choose its new leaders for the next few years.

The separatist party, Parti Quebecois wants to separate Quebec from Canada and by accomplishing a referendum. There were already 2 since the 1970's - however that scared many English people away so at one point the housing marketing in the most precious places in Montreal were 150,000 -- now the property has obviously went up, some places fetching well over 2-3M but average of 250,000-300,000 for a house on the island.

Can we see this again repeat itself if this party comes into power?!

Your thoughts.

Well it's a minority government so the PQ could be held in check or the Libs & CAQ could try to form a coalition, but it is too early to tell yet.

I would imagine that the Montreal and Quebec real estate market would go into a holding pattern for now, but I would imagine very little upside if there is another referendum on the way.

Imagine if real-estate in Montreal really did fall apart?! I work from Ottawa and it could bring a nice influx of buyers out here smile

Marois has been in power for months now and it doesn't look like prices have declined much so far. That could change, but I think these fears were unfounded. I don't see another referendum coming in the next few years, based on recent polls.

What chance does a referendum actually have though? Isn't there majority support in favor of remaining a part of Canada?

I never did understand the motives of the separatists..
