Has anybody ever done this? I got an order on a house that I had done a year ago. (same company)This is an area with no numbers on the houses, but postal boxes out front. When doing the second bpo, i just discovered that I did the bpo on the wrong house last year. This is the first time I can remember this has ever happened. Is there anything I can do? Do you think they will compare last year's bpo with this year's? Has anybody ever done this?

Sorry, KY! I gotcha beat. I rekeyed the wrong house just a few days ago. I had done a drive-by earlier in the month on a pre-forclosure empty house on the same block, and when the occupancy check and pre-list info came through, I went right back to the first house. I filled out the occupancy check right away, sent it back immediately, and got the locksmith to the property that same day.
As I was rereading the requirements for the interior BPO and pre-list instructions, I discovered the mistake I had made. I was sick at heart! The houses are kitty-cornered across the street from each other.
Unfortunately, the second house (the one I'm actually listing) is occupied, so I'm working the cash for keys and had to do a drive-by rather than a full interior.
Of course, the worst part was notifying both vendors what I had done. The woman with the property preservation company for the unoccupied house (the wrong house) actually laughed OUT LOUD when I told her that I had rekeyed the already-rekeyed house. Seems that that house has not yet sold at the courthouse. Because it was empty/abandoned, the property preservation people had been called to secure it, though it has not yet been trashed out. I just gave her the key code for my rekey. No real problem there except for my embarrassment and the fact that I now get to eat a locksmith bill.
I cannot believe I did it, but I did.

LizL...I did the same thing a couple of years ago!! Some of these rural areas are a nightmare with postal boxes on the highway and gravel roads way off the road, no numbers on houses and you have to figure out which house is which. Fortunately, they were both summer homes and not lived in 24/7...so that made it easier...kind of. :0

I've done this as well. Mine was the wrong address verification photo (I uploaded one for a PI taken for another vendor)! Part of the fun of doing several orders in one day!
I fortunately, had turned in the order a day early, so the "updated" BPO was still on time. My rep laughed and said that it happens frequently. I did catch the error that evening, when I was looking over my printed out copies of orders. I felt like an idiot having to call them.

Ky, you are very experienced in doing this things. If you goof, you know everyone can. Your company may have realized the problem later, realized why it happened, and did not bother to dock your pay since they had already paid you. You may not have even been the first one to make that mistake based on the circumstances. If they are a regular client of yours, they will definitely know the quality of your work and know it was not because of sloopy work habits.
Here's another feel better story that I am not proud of. Got my first order from a great client, and it was in my old neighborhood a few blocks away. What could be better. What made it a bad experience was my taking a photo of the wrong house and getting a clarification the next day asking me if I try again and get it right this time. Those are my words...they were much nicer. I just read the address off the job order, then drove down a 1/2 block and remembered it wrong. Now I look at the address while in front of the house, as a precaution. At least you had an excure...I had none.
You are in good company, my friend.
Darlene.

I always take a street sign shot first. Then all the photos in my folder including address verification, street view, front, side, damage, etc. etc. until the next street sign shot is related to the same property.

Gig em', that is a great system. I have been doing this for a long time and never organized my photos while taking them that way. But after you had suggested it on another thread, I have been doing it ever since and it just makes sense and it is ever so easy and you always have verification if you ever need it. Thanks for tip!!!

Yep, I did this a few months ago. I got an urgent clarification request on a BPO I had done 3 month prior. My photos did not match up to the appraisers photos.
Went back out to the property and found my mistake. The street sign was bent and twisted arounfd to make it appear as though I was on the right street when in actuality I was one street away. I had the right number, just the next street over. Luckily the houses were almost exactly the same and I did not need to change the BPO much just the pictures.
I knew the area pretty well and should have realized I was on the wrong street. Boy did I feel stupid. I now double and triple check where I am as well as check my photos against those in the assessors online database.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
