So some FOOL I followed for one whole day marketed his dumba55 as a Twitter social marketing expert. He proceeded to twat pithy inspirational quotes, interjected with his twit-marketing program and they came through hourly - that's about a dozen BS twats for me to ignore.

My point is this: If you're twatting to find business like that clown, I feel that you're doing it wrong.

1. Resist the urge to twat hourly! Gawd!

2. Twat more than 5/day and you're off my follow list.

3. Never twat your business or you're going straight to my spam list which will show on your homepage and remind you daily that you are doing it wrong and annoying people.

4. You may refer to your business casually, as in "I'm looking forward to my listing appointment tonight!" or "Really excited to list this home, it's neat, check it out: "

5. But NEVER twat obvious stuff like "I'm available for all your RE needs!" That's just insulting to your audience.

What are your rules for Twitter posting and following?

I don't mind if people mention their website or have passive posts about their business, but I do not like to be force fed garbage tweets that bombard me. I do delete members that obviously don't have a personality behind them.

There are a couple who post nothing but listings. I do not follow him anymore. And yes, the inspirational garbage is just that - garbage, except for something once in a blue moon.

I broke some rules in the beginning and lost some followers - I was tweeting several times while watching AI or 24 - and probably ticked off a bunch of followers.

I would post all my listings a couple times a week and that was it. Now I post them a couple times a week and engage in convo with followers and post other random things. It's a learning process but I feel like I'm utilizing it better now.

6. Twitting meals and menus is the lowest form of twatting. No one cares about the red velvet cupcake you're eating except for you.

I don't mind those tweeting once in a while about their business...but I pretty much hate those who are there only to do blatant advertising, and spam you with tons of irelevant messages every day. We got it once, don't need to bury us with all your non-sense

Very straight forward approach.
I think, some people didn't understand the meaning of being active in the networking sites and unwanted posts/content.

Any promotional information has to be informative to all the readers. That's why I either post articles related to real estate or Greenville news or pictures of a cool area I'm in. That way, if you're not looking for a home, my posts still give value. Yes, when I have a new listing I post that but only the really cool ones.

Great rules to live by in this thread. Its all about giving persons useful/relevant/entertaining information. If you are just "noise"...then they will either ignore you or quit following.

7. Stop tweeting "Good morning!" and "Good night!" - if you haven't any value to add, be quiet. Less is more.

8. Don't die with your Twitter account full of hate and venom - it will be your eternal electronic legacy, make it a good one!

Here's an example of how not to up and die with a Twitter account!...

Very good list. You're right - nothing more annoying than persons who are using social media and things like Twitter incorrectly.

I love the list.

I follow a few people who I know are doing it wrong for the laugh. I haven't done much twitter myself yet. Since I know I'll need to invest time do it right yet.
