Not a fan of Metallica but they did a darn fine job with Turn The Page (Bob Seger). I liked Rod Stewarts last album doing remakes also (Love Hurts (Nazereth) and Still The Same (Seger).

I like hearing new perspectives on old songs.

I agree Dayton, that cover completely rocked!!!

My favorite is a remake of the Pearl Jam song of "Black" that was on their debut album. Aaron Lewis who is the lead singer of the band Staind, put out an acoustical version of this song that takes it into an entirely different direction. This version really strips down the song, and emphasizes the heartbreaking words of the lyrics. A song about lost love, that we have all shared at least once in our life, if not more.

Because it gives the song such a different "identity" it is my personal favorite remake. See link below.

I listen to Sirius comedy channels a lot and they play a lot of Wierd Al Yankovic. Now there's a guy that knows how to do cover versions

Aw--how could I forget Cream's cover of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" or The Byrds cover of Dylan's "Tambourine Man"

Somebody covered Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. It was kind of crunchy and metally. I don't recall the band. Both versions rock on. rockon And the video for MJs was pretty cool if I recall. That goes back to the days of when videos were something to be seen.

I'm gong to have to disagree with you. A William Shatner cover is an art form in itself. It's certainly not a faithful reproduction of the original but it certainly can be worth the listen.

Yes, he was amazing. Fortunately for us as fans we got to keep him until he was 50. How many of the greats never made it to 30?
