Hello all

I'm living in Toronto and had planned on selling real estate as a career. I completed the OREA pre registration courses a little over a year ago. I was planning to register by next week and I already have a brokerage that I want to sign up with. However I just found out that there was a 1 year time limit from the completion of the courses to register with RECO and to find employment.

I received my exam results on Nov 6, 2010 and it is now Dec 17, 2011, just a little over a month from my limit. The reason I had waited this long was because I had been working and saving up the money to pay for the registration fees and a vehicle.

I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me and if anything could be done other than having to do the course all over again. I'd call the RECO office but they are closed for the weekend. I sent an email explaining my situation however but I don't want to wait until Monday to find out what will happen. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

See page 55 of the Course 1 text.

According to that it appears that you will fall into the 12-18 month exemption in which you will not have to redo the courses but will have to re-write the Course 2 and Course 3 exams. If you wait more than 18 months (and under 5 years) it seems you will have to re-take Course 2 and 3 all together and re-write those exams. In either of those cases you will not have to redo Course 1 or write that exam. Have a look at the text but then also call them on Monday to find out for sure.
