Seriously...I am getting so sick of this. The house is listed, it is being well maintained. But...the bank in their amazing wisdom decides it needs to be secured. So they dump chemicals in the toilets that are eventually flushed into our river. Then they remove the very attractive Baldwin sculpted handle locks and replace them with god awful tacky brass Kwikset locks.

And if that wasn't special enough then they order a BPO..but fail to remember THEY CHANGED THE LOCKS AND NOBODY HAS A KEY!!!

I feel better now.

They rekeyed the whole house? If the home is listed and still in redemption, it's law in our state the bank can only rekey a side or entrance. If they do rekey, they always throw locks on with generic bank codes that I have keys for.

What do they do then if it is a second or higher story condo unit with only a front entrance?

I feel the OPs pain, as sometimes these properties are rekeyed without anyone's knowledge. You go out there and wham, you can't get in. My sucess rate is about 80% thereafter as I have about a dozen different Kwick Set/bank keys. If you know the lender, then sometimes you can figure out the combo for the lockbox. (ie Suntrust Bank uses the same combination for all their properties)

P.S. If the lockbox has a bank/AM key I don't already have, I make it SOP to "borrow" the key for a 1/2 hour or so and get a copy made. Chances are I may be able to use it again on a different property. Kwickset keys will actually have their five digit number on the back as a reference.

the Property Preservation companies obviously use the cheapest locks and deadbolts. the expensive existing door hardware goes home with the PP guys. I've seen it many times. as the listing agent, you should get there before the PP guys and save whatever needs to be saved.

The PP guys changed the locks on a condo unit. THE PP threw the locks and hardware out. Don't PP people know you do not change the hardware on condo? You chamge cylinders and leave the hardware in the unit!!

I have spent the past ten days trying to find the lock and hardware for this unit because the HOA says all condo doors must match; and we (the bank, PP) is responsible for the damage. The damage being now the condo doors will not be alike if I do not find a replacement hardware. The HOA is correct. The bank has authorized me to get bids for the work. I am not having success finding the matching hardware now I am stuck with headache of working with the HOA board to change all eight units' door locks and hardware.

LOL. you can't expect much from the PP crews. many times they don't even speak English. they are told to remove everything that is removable.

They pick the lock, take the lock apart, cut a key to fit it, put the knob back on, and put a lockbox on with the key they just made. Owner still has access if needed and so does the bank.
