Me and a few other agents have been discussing the link between productivity level and the office atmosphere
Would you say having a dull boring office, no excitement among agents as opposed to a high energy level among agents highly motivated office can be linked with the agents productivity

Well if you have ever been in a high energy production environment you would know it does. When I moved my market area from one county to another I landed in a new company in a large metro area. Average office at that time was 4-12 agents and only 2 multi-office companies existed in the area.
There was the 3 founders and 2 agents one of which talked me into joining them, and I've got to tell you finding 3 or 4 of them in the office at 3am was not unusual, and if you arrived back at the office at 8am they were there. I swear they were secretly sleeping there. The synergy was unbelievable, it went from that small office to 12 good sized offices with producing agents within 2 years. Being there established my foundation in town chop-chop.
Sad to say if fell apart when two founders found out the other founder was sleeping with their wives and got each of them pregnant and a war started. It was over, I started my own office and that was that. We had newbies come in and if they joined in playing the "game" it was almost automatic that they would be a good producing agent by the next year. Fantastic experience, the agents left and joined other offices, or started their own, but it was never the same for any of us, definitely a once in a lifetime event to be remembered fondly.

Yes, depends on the agent and chemistry between the agents.
But I feel it's more important to be in an office that doesn't have negative unproductive agents hanging around the office. It's OK to have them on the roster if they stay home and be negative, but if they are going to be in the office, sitting floor time and complaining about how the phones aren't ringing, no one is buying, and mocking those who are productive, they need to go.
I have one of them in my office, and he can bring down moral faster than 5 productive people can bring it up. Luckily, those of us who have been around for a while ignore him, and we warn new agents to do the same, but it really shouldn't have to be that way.

To answer the OP's question:
The office you work out of plays a very significant role in weather you will be successful or not, I often go into the office just to be around the "buzz" and to talk "real estate" with colleagues making over $150,000.00 a year, I feel that you need to surround yourself with people that are like you or people that you want to be like, as they say, associate with successful people and you will drift in that direction as well.
The only problem at my office is that we have a few people that want to constantly ask you questions or advice on there new laptop, iPad, iPhone etc. I also have too many Brokers that like talking about non-real estate related topics or industry gossip and frankly, I just don't have the time for that.
Bottom line is, make sure your office is positive and full of energy and be sure to associate or pick the brains of the successful Brokers in the office.

I like being at the office, I cold call, e-mail potential clients, meet people via social networking and of course take care of all of my administrative stuff, however, once my business grows, I am going to hire someone to do the majority of that I am going to pound the pavement and meet buyers and sellers and network more and more. yeah well most offices they sit around discussing the economy..or recession..or how bad the market is.. its unacceptable... and again..aint no buyers and sellers there.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
