You know the saying "No good deed goes unpunished"! Sigh...

But, you did the right thing by talking to the neighbors about a potential structural problem you'd uncovered.

Pretty convenient they can find all but yours. upset Sure the city will drop the subject they have noting to gain by keeping it going, because all the finger pointing is going to be in their direction. The structural engineer sounds like a good ideal. It sounds like it is going to be up tp you as too how far this issue goes with the city. Good luck and keep us posted. Maybe we will see you on Sixty Minutes.

Recognize that to cover their rear ends, they'd also say that you should have gotten a permit before tying your shoes this morning.

Saying that you "don't" need a permit to do anything involves risk taking, and that is always anathema to any bureaucrat.

ain't that interesting? sounds like the city doesn't want to open a can of worms, especially after the statute of limitations is past (sixteen years). City probably can't fine the builder at this point, civil remedies dead, so why pursue it?

Thanks to everyone for their insight. I really appreciate all of your help.

Well understood on the permit issue Vermont.

No thank you on Sixty Minutes DRSRK. If I continue to push, I can see them pushing back even harder. Since I can't possibly notify everyone in the subdivision, hopefully the ones I did contact know thy neighbors. I feel as though I've done what I could to bring this to light.
