I was thinking of starting to sell real estate now as a part time job until next april when I would quit my job I have now and go full time as realator. Good idea or should I wait till april and start then as full time agent?

starting now part-time will give you a chance to put your marketing plan into motion, and test the waters. either way, you'll need some cash reserves to get started and carry you through the next year. you need to do what is financially sensible, especially in this economic environment. As a new agent, I would not quit a stable job. I would start part-time with a good brokerage that offers training. you really won't be confident and marketable to the public until you have at least some training completed, and preferably a few transactions completed.

Even in a hot market, it could be several months before you see your first paycheck. So with that said, make sure that you have a big enough cushion so you don't have unnecessary pressure/anxiety when you transition into a real estate career. In the meantime, try to learn as much as you can. Most people assume that getting a license prepares you for being a full time professional RE agent, where in reality it is merely the beginning of a career-long learning experience. Best of luck in your endeavors.

I would start now. Learn the market in the bad times so that you know what its like. We have some agents here that started in 2008. They dont know what a good market is. In this busines education is Key.

I'm starting now, and I'm going full time. I figure, why wait? Obviously if you don't enough money to live on for a couple months then build that up first. If the cushion is there however, personally I would jump in. The faster I learn the business, the faster I can get listings before they go to other agents. I want to be a broker by the time the market really turns around.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
