I am always on the lookout for client giveaways or “items of value” that you can give to a client that will stick around longer than a memo pad (a few months) or calendar (1 year).

I wrote about an idea for a Kid’s Growth Chart for the wall in my Marketing Minute Newsletter. I portrayed it as an “Item of Value” that would stick around a long time compared to a memo pad or even a calendar and create a positive connection with your client. At the time it was just a concept, but the interest from my readers convinced me to pursue this idea further.

Realtors can use these as part of their gift at closing. Insurance providers can offer it to new clients. Retailers can offer branded versions for sale. Mortgage brokers can give it to their clients. Any business can benefit from having a branded Wall Growth chart in their customer’s home.

I searched the internet for a supplier or a printer that produced a customizable growth chart that was reasonably priced and all I found were pre-printed charts for boys and girls in a wide variety of designs, but most were priced in the $30.00 to $70.00 range.

Since I could not find any company that printed customizable wall growth charts I decided to design my own and find a printer that could print them at a reasonable price. What did I come up with? Wall Growth Chart Sample Click here for a full length sample.

Specs:

- 4″ wide and 72″ high plus an 8″ space at the top for your branding
- Marked in inches and centimeters
- Grommet at top so it can be hung and put away between measurements if you choose (pictured to right)
- Printed on durable vinyl
- Peel-off backing if you prefer to stick it on the wall
- 6 standard backgrounds with more in the works

Branding

- You can add a vertical phrase stretching up to 6′. Some examples are an insurance agent using the slogan “Growing With Your Family” or a slogan referring to the quality of service “Taking You to New Heights”, How do we measure up” etc.
- There is a 4″ x 8″ space at the top to add your branding
- Branding can be added anywhere.
- You can use your own colors.

Clever idea; I really like it. The only fault I see is this: Where is a kid's growth chart likely to be hung? A kid's bedroom. Whose eyes are most likely to see it? The kid's. And kid friends of the kid. You can make the argument that parents naturally enter a kid's bedroom, but honestly your audience is extremely limited. I'll give it an A for creativity, and a D for practicality. Just my honest observations.

I honestly have never called someone because I saw their promotional materials around. I called service providers based on the recommendation of friends or because I found them online or in the yellow pages.
