I need to switch, GoDaddy.com is soooo slow.. I think I'm going to go with a virtual dedicated, does anyone do this?

Get familiar with the forum and post threads in the appropriate section. The answers will typically be better suited.

I love dreamhost. Hate godaddy for hosting. Bluehost has been good to me, too.

I'd say Bluehost is great as well. Nothing but good things from them so far.

Has bluehost closed the shell access? They used to leave the shell access to the server open for anyone and if you used it you were on the honor system. Honor doesn't work with hackers and they would not leave my site alone. There was no way I could lock down my site to protect it from server attacks. I had to move to another host.

This was an e-commerce site with a lot of activity so that may have been the reason it was targeted.

Bluehost is good and another one that I've used with a few clients is FatCow and they have a nice interface and didn't have any problems with uptime.

I use hostmonster and they've been great. My entire site is built on WordPress, so I don't really see the hostmonster back end panel, but it was very easy to set up and the cost was $72/year. They actually have live people to help if you need support.

Forgot to mention that I've also used bluehost for the same cost, but i found hostmonster's support to be superior. I'm not a programmer, so I need things explained in slowly, in plain English. Minus the condescending attitude.

I used godaddy once, and never again. I'd rather pay a company who spends their money on good support service rather than trashy commercials.

I think I am going to use an old pc and set up my own server with a test site and see how fast it is.. I just moved into a new place and my internet is lightning fast... not enough to be hosting google or a major site but for one like mine that gets 30 hits/day I bet it will be a lot better than GoDaddy which probably puts hundreds on a single machine.. otherwise.. I'm still looking..

I am using GoDaddy too...no doubt it is slow from time to time but still GoDaddy is one of the cheap solution for web hosting!!!

Dreamhost for my wordpress sites.

I use hostgator. No issues whatsoever. I've only had to call support once, the techie was knowledgeable. I pay $10/month.

Ditto on hostgator. Cheap, reliable...

Godaddy is TERRIBLE, slow, unreliable connections constantly, I have been with Hostgator for 7+ years now and their support is great too.

I use yahoo right now, but I'm looking into a google host solution. I picked yahoo because their is never a load time issue and the servers won't get my emails flagged as spam unless marked by user. It does limit some features, so I wouldn't consider them for a national site host but for local traffic it's perfect.

I think I paid 130 for the year with unlimited branded email accounts.

I have been using HostExcellence for few years. They used to offer free domain registration every year, but now only the first year of registration. But overall they r ok, don't expect good customer service though.

I have Busy Agent Pro hosting my sites. 1 time fee and unlimited number of sites available. Great service since all of my sites tie into my client database with them as well.

I think that they are closing to new business at the end of the month so check them out quickly if your interested.

Stay away from Godaddy, their sites take forever to load. I use Hostgater.

I also think Hostgator is the best and I've tried several hosting providers (including Godaddy).

From my experience with GoDaddy I would say stay away. They are expensive and they admin panel is confusing. I recommend using hostmonster.com. I use 1and1.com as well, and they are alright but I like the cpanel with hostmonster.com. I have heard good things about hostgator.com too.
