Why don't You try to work on Your own? Its not a very good time anyway, but working for someone will always only get You a small part of commision.

I have thought of that, there are several companies in california that only charge an average of 500 pr transaction. Some of them have training webinars for new agents. The big drawback; they dont have an office in my area or close anyway.

I am new, actually just passed my test on Saturday (woohoo!!) I can't comment on much obviously, but I did have some frustrations when looking for a sponsoring broker (in Ohio, we must have a sponsoring broker before we take the exam). I live in a community of about 35,000 people and it is a very tight knit, "good ole boy" community. There are 2 large brokerages in my town, one a national franchise and the other is a local broker. I interviewed with both of them and pretty much got the cold shoulder. They really wanted nothing to do with a new broker and even though im 26, one said I was still too young for them. They never really asked much about me, interviews lasted maybe 5-10 minutes each. Then I went to another broker in town which was another national franchise. He never once said anything about his brokerage or real estate in general until he got to know me better. He spent 15 minutes alone talking to me wanting to know my interests, hobbies and my family. He really made me feel comfortable once we got to the real estate questions. He answered every question I asked and left no stone unturned. He gave me an outline of their franchise training program and what I would be expecting. I am actually going to be the first new agent they have taken in quite some time. When I originally met with him, I still had another 6 weeks to go in my Real Estate courses. He still called me every week to see how things were going and if I needed help with anything. If anything those other two brokerages motivated me to succeed even more.
Good luck to all new agents and don't let ANYONE attempt to tear you down. Remember, most of those that are trying to tear you down were once new agents too.

Hey Jake! Congrats on finding a good company to work for. Way to stick it out. I am really surprised the other two companies did not sincerely consider you.
There are more and more people in their 20s becoming Realtors and I welcome you all and wish you good luck. The best way for our profession to continue forward is to attract new and capable Realtors.
Good luck!
Thanks,
Mario

As I interviewed with various brokers I was surprised how little they wanted to know about me.
Also surprised how many of the questions I asked them that they would not or could not answer. Are they just looking for someone to fog a mirror? It was very important to me to go with someone who offered lots of training even if I had to pay for it. I now see why real estate agents sometimes rank lower than used car salespersons in public opinion polls.
Have you found some place that you like? I'm personally glad that other brokerages are that way. Gives us an opportunity to stand out.

The same testing service will handle it differently based upon instructions from the respective State Real Estate Commissions.
We used to provide immediate scoring and if someone failed, the distribution of their errors by topical area. That ceased a few years ago, and applicants now have to wait for a pass/fail; and then must request the distribution of their scores.

I'm with you . . . . I was taught that the testing process itself SHOULD be an educational experience; but without access to where a person was weak, and where they were strong, test takers are denied that learning aspect.
Those who pass walk out thinking they know everything, and those that fail think they know nothing . . . . when the difference between the two people may be as little as one question !

This is a challenge for all of us. I am in the same boat now--my pipeline is full and I am working with a number of Buyers and Listings. Need to start getting some under contract.
Stick with it because eventually you will start knocking them down and the snowball will start building for you.
Hardest part of sales is riding the roller coaster.
Good luck!
Thanks,
Mario

Just because you get your license doesn't mean people will knock your door down to do business with you. You are now self employed so YOU have to shake the bushes and find your own business. Referals are an agent's life blood for long term success. But you can't get referals until you get the initial business. When I first started my biggest challange was figuring out how to spend my time. Set an appointment with yourself and prospect EVERY day. No one pushes you to go to work. You have to push yourself. Get on with a broker who has a good training program and start digging for gold. He who lists will last in this business. That is what I did 12 years ago and now I live in the land of milk and honey - ha ha. But I am still in the business and still have to prospect for clients.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
