Hello,

I'm currently working full-time and working long hours overtime mandatory. It'd be very tough for me to attend a school near me while working. I live in Pennsylvania and the nearest real estate school is about 40 minutes away. It'd be wonderful if I could attend an online real estate school but I'm wondering if there any legitimate ones? Are they looked upon as real schools for real estate?

Is there any one online school is particular that is recommended here for Pennsylvania? I'm considering an appraisal or home inspection license, rather than a salesperson license.

Thanks so much!

Hi Driven. i recently finished my education to be a colorado broker with realestateexpress.com. They are legitimate and recognized. It worked for me, but it was not the best experience to be honest. Staring at a computer screen for 168 hours of coursework is not ideal, and some of the exam questions they used were questionable in their quality. An example of this: a question asked "In the question above, what would Bob's prorated taxes be using the 365-day method" which would be ok if the question above that one mentioned someone named Bob! Other than a couple issues like that though, it all worked out.

One advantage of taking the courses online is that you can work at your own pace. If you want, you can spend all of your time working on them and really get them done quick and get started on your new career.

In the end, it really depends on your learning style. If you are like me and always learned better by reading a textbook rather than paying attention in class, then online can be the right thing for you.

I attended Proschools and they were excellent, not sure if they offer training in PA, but they are worth looking into.

Welcome Driven,
I came to real estate from higher education. Frankly many of the online schools are better than the live classroom with some dingy instructor. Best wishes!

I am also in Pennsylvania, and I took my classes online through Career Web School.

The system can be a bit tedious since you have to go over everything twice - they believe in mastering through repetition or something like that - but seemingly effective.

I passed my exam in 45 minutes (they give you 3 hours) with 89% on the national portion and 90% on state.

I wouldnt worry about the school too much. As long as it gives you the credit you need to take the test. Most of the time what you learn in the class is not what you need for the test.

I did my classes online to get my license. In fact now I do my continuing ed online exclusively. I don't do well in classrooms so this is perfect for me.

All very good input from everyone. I did my training online with optional material sent to my house for review. I like to be able to flip through physical pages and also have the time to take test when I can. I went with Allied business schools. For me they worked great and were there to answer my questions. In the end it is up to you to decided which method you think will for you.

I tried twice to go thru online school and could never make it thru the first 50 pages!I was always so tired and would fall asleep. This year I was finally determined to do it. I enrolled in a 4 day crash course in Costa Mesa calif.; Kaplan schools. I stayed at a hotel so I woud have no distractions and I could study.I had an excellent teacher who was a re broker and a lawyer. He clarified so many things that an online course could not do. His name was Jim Parks and he was an outstanding teacher. I was able to go through school, pass the state exam and be licensed in 45 days. There is also a good website called www.carealestateexams that sells a $25 download of 450 questions.I bought that and memorized the questions 2 days before.I blew through the exam in about an hr and ten minutes and just knew I had passed. It seemed like all the questions I was asked were on the $25 download.
