I'm curious if anyone on here works in two different states? I am thinking of moving to another state about 10 hours away. I was also hoping to keep my business here open (bpos and reos) and start working on building a business in the new area. Since I would still be making money in my original location, it would help me stay afloat until I can make money in the new area.

Couple of things to note.

I have my brokers license, but I am not the principal broker/owner of the company I work for.

The reos and bpos are being handled by a licensed Realtor in my original location with me still over seeing the operation. The companies would be aware and okay with the arrangement.

I don't think this would be easy by any means, but the home values have dropped so much, I need to sell way too many homes just to make a decent living.

Has anyone else done this, and what was the hardest things you had to overcome?

I live on the border of NY and PA. I have a license in both states. Getting the PA license was easy because there is reciprocity. The thing that gets expensive is being a member of all the different MLS's.

I too live near the border of NY and PA and I plan on getting my NY license as soon as my broker gets set up for it. I occasionally have need to show properties (usually just Delaware River properties) on the other side and it will be convenient to be legally able to show them. Belonging to two MLS's will be an expensive drag. smirk

Hey Perky,

As you know I live right across the border in Callicoon. If you need any help with the NY stuff, let me know.

I live right on the border of Washington and Oregon. Am Oregon licensed and will be WA licensed within the next week. Luckily, there is one MLS that covers the area but there is another that also covers the rest of WA that I may wind up also joining. I figure if you live on the border, why cut your territory in half by just being licensed in one state. The fun part is that the forms and laws are vastly different in some things so I also carry 2 complete kits for whichever state I am working in.

I appreciate that. It's good to know - some folks over there are not always willing to play together. smile

I love Calicoon. It's such a neat little town!!!
