I think a welcome message like this on a realtor's personal website would be awesome... http://www.landryforlouisiana.com/ your thoughts? I'm not sure how he does the video of himself with no background... I've just never seen a site do that before and it really left a positive impression that I think clients would like... or do things like that never really work?

I've seen this quite a bit, but mostly from ads within another website. I find that annoying. However I think it would stand out on a real estate website. As long as somehow you could make it not come on everytime someone would revisit your website. Maybe they use a green screen somewhat like weatherpeople do on TV?

I also find it annoying, this is intrusive, takes over the computer, and if someone's browsing from work, the sound will make him close the browser within a second, and likely never come back...
I think that people typically don't like that. Every time you click on the website having to watch some welcome message? That would not go over well. People typically don't like music on websites either.

I hate it and if it comes on a website that I am visiting, I only stay if there is some other compelling reason for me to stay on that website. I hate music on a website too.

I almost always click away also. I am not a fan of videos online that automatically play in general because I am already listening to music/radio/TV most of the time.

I hate it also. It will appeal to a few people and completely turn off the others. Also, it doesn't appear that there's any way to click on him and make him go away. I would not stay on that website more than 3 seconds.
Music and video that comes on without knowingly prompting it, I think is intrusive. Just like in face to face meetings, people don't want things thrown at them. They want to feel in control.
Bad idea, looks horrible, nobody want to see or hear this. It's an assault on the senses. Don't do it.
I agree. It reminds me of the time when palying a sound file on your web site was "kewl" and it seemed that every site you came across had a sound file playing. It may be cute in the beginning, but it gets annoying real quick.

Creating a website with a welcome video is not such a bad thing if your website is used for sending people to only once. For real estate, the goal is to get people coming back to your site using it as a tool. Most visitors don’t want an annoying video or music to play every time they come to your website.
