ok, i know I burden the thread with my rants. I do apologize in advance. As some of you know I have joined a brokerage who pays me to do admin work. I really haven't been taught to much about how to create a sustainable business, but today my broker of record asked me to find a reputable brokerage and email all of the agents. All 110 of them to tell them about this brokerage. I am working at a 100% brokerage, so I can see the appeal to established agents. But is this what I should be learning to do. My patience is starting to run thin. I have been interviewing brokerages becuase I think I got trapped in the 100% gimmick. DAMN, why didn;t I listen to you all.

I am pretty sure you knew the answer to your question before you posted it and just wanted to rant.

I figured I'd comment so at least you didn't rant to just yourself.

Actually, once you are perceived as an admin worker, who is going to take you seriously as an agent? Probably no one.

I joined because he said that I would learn the admin, contracts how to upload mls listings and so forth. I haven't learnt anything that can be valuable to my business.

I actually left today and joined a condo brokerage, less split but better training. They have already given me 3 rental leads and an open house this weekend.

Great job AAP, it's great that you decided to put yourself first and start doing what you'd like :)

Good luck

You definitely made the right decision. The admin stuff is easy to learn. Sounds like they were just taking advantage of you.

And that's precisely why I believe 100% brokerages and new agents to be a bad combination.

You don't learn until you try. I realized that I made a mistake joining there. I was scared to tell him, but when I did I was surprised at what he said to me. He said what happens if you do the same thing to clients. We do 40 % condos (that is a lie, I checked) He said I should have told him that I am thinking of leaving. He also said that I will you probably would leavein 6 months because I am new to the industry. He also said that I will steal his techniques that he taught me. All he taught me was to door knock and hand out seeds. I am not a gardner.... ..He put me down a lot, but it motivates me to plaster my face throughout the city with listings......He will always remember me!!!

I don't think even if you go door knock it was truely his idea that you stole. Plenty of people door knock. He probably stole "his" idea from someone else

He is a knob who has no creative mind. I think he believes his systemt works with condo owners. His area is filled with older people who are not as tech savvy. My market is 32 year old condo professionals who are in tune with technology.

2 completely different demographics that need different approaches. What would be a good strategy to attract condo buyers/sellers?

But remember, at least this "knob" was creative enough to write those Pay Checks to you for doing "administrative" work, right?

He hired you as an Admin to do his Admin work. In many offices the Admin is also responsible for running the sweeper. The difference is the Admin is generally a licensed Realtor, it creates a conflict. So he PAID you a wage to do what he needed done? I don't see anything wrong with that, because you did not like what he had you do.

I could see the beef if you hired him to be your mentor, and that was all he had to teach you, but thats not the case. He cut you a check for your duties, making you an employee first, a realtor second.

AAP,

I think this site was created for people to share their experiences. Your experience can be a learning tool for another.

I never worked in an office. You surely gave me some insight. And to add to Vermont's comment, that Realtor had the wherewithal to pay you. I have never been able to hire anyone and pay them a salary. i just automate everything that I can and work 20 hour days, including reading through here for insight and help where I think I can.
