I come from North Sand Mountain in northeastern AL- about 2 miles from Happy Haller (Hallow). It's pretty darn back woods. If you want deep- just go into the mountains. Trenton, GA Higdon, AL area- about 20 miles south of Chattanooga, TN. Everyone has frilly bathroom shower curtains, buys colored or printed toilet paper, and keeps the extra roll tucked under a Barbie doll's big crocheted skirt. Ever watch Sweet Home Alabama? Just exagerate that a little bit, and you've got it. My mom has some beautiful land there she is willing to part with.

I think you can buy the whole mountain for about $10. (I'll have to check into it, but it's certainly not the $100K+ an acre it is here.)

Barbour County or Russell County-both are known for greating hunting areas and the Chattahoochee runs through both counties.
As far as Sweet Home Alabama is concerned, the scene where she is going to her hometown was shot in my hometown, Eufaula, AL (Barbour County). Eufaula is the largest city in the county-around 14,000 maybe. Clayton, Louisville or Clio are the smaller towns.
There are alot of fishing tournaments held on Lake Eufaula-it has been called the Bass Capital of the World. Tom Mann (depth finder & jelly worm)is from Eufaula.
I do know of a Hunting Lodge in Clayton for sale. It has over 900 acres and a 4700 sq ft log cabin. It's only $1,950,000--anybody interested?
If you get a chance, put "Eufaula, AL" into google and check it out. It is a beautiful place to visit. Use the parenthesis because there is a Eufaula, OK (that's where our Indians went when they were forced out of Eufaula, AL)
I could tell you much more, but I am beginning to feel like I work for the Chamber of Commerce

I was just mentioning that. I didn't think you were interested in the hunting lodge, but you can check out: www.eufaulamls.com and see what is available around Barbour County, Henry County and Russell County. also check out www.eufaulaalabama.com to find out about the town. Let me know what you think. Kim

I just thought folks around there owned lawn machines to race em or as yard ornaments and occassionaly target practice -you know line the empty bud cans on-just teaseing.

Eufala, AL is a nice area, but I would stay away from the Tuscaloosa area! There are definitely some nice areas in north/central AL and north Georgia. Another area I would suggest considering is the Jasper, FL area. Jasper is just south of the Georgia border and is very southern. Not many neighbors and land is plentiful and relatively cheap. My sister and her husband are considering selling their ranch (160 acres) @ $10k an acre. That is fully cleared, cross fenced, and set up for cattle & hay operations. Uncleared land is definitely cheaper. Her son bought a four acre tact with a 3/2 with lake access for $76k in July. Both properties are about 2 minutes drive from two rivers. Plentiful deer and turkey. Few nieghbors. Only about an hour from Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Try the Lake City Board MLS: http://www.northfloridarealtors.com/

Eufaula is much closer to Auburn than Tuscaloosa. It is going to be a good game tomorrow. Have you checked out? www.frappr.com/thebunker The bunker is a forum my husband is a member of and the frapper map is really cool. Read some of the shoutouts--some of them are funny

There are several counties in North Alabama (Sand Mountain area) that may satisfy your reqirement of "deep south". You might want to check out www.valleymls.com to view some of the properties available. Would be happy to assist you! ------------------- Barry Hartman Realtor REMAX, Albertville, AL (800) 447-7013

There is a lot of country land about an hour north of Charleston, SC. the land goes for 2k-5k per acre. It is defiantely rural land and the neighbors pretty much just stay to themselves. At the same time it is close enough to have a lawn service or cleaning service to go out to the property. I just sold 39 acres for $82K. If you would like to know what is available just let me know.

I have listed 2 properties in ladson sc and n charleston sc. Neither has the amount of land you want, but sc is very southern, especially ladson. 3br 1200 sqft, vacant. 107900. The house is completely redone on inside with new carpets, lights, cabinets, counters, toilet, vanity and is vacant-ready for move in. It is listed below market, hoping that it would sell faster that way. House next door sold couple of months ago for 119,500, mine is listed for 107,900. estimate mortgage would be 530 with rents in area at 825-950.
The one in North Charleston is having its first showing this Friday, is listed for 108,000. It is renter occupied, and the mortgage would be 530 estimate and the renter now pays 650. if this renter moves out after sale, rents in area are now 850.
if you have not purchased yet, email me private and i can send you address you can satellite view it. Ladson one is definitely more in the country, and closer to more country, plus added bonus of ocean less than 45 minutes away.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
