I am a student at The University of North Texas and my degree is a general studies in Marketing, Communications, and Economics.
I have been strongly pursuing Account Executive work in Marketing and this has been going very well for me, however I have a strong passion for Real Estate. Mainly my DREAM (I know this is hard) is to invest in properties, as well as some construction development. I am very ambitious and goal oriented, but I am having a hard time deciding how to go about my options since I have a promising career ahead of me in marketing specifically.
My only way to really dabble in the Real Estate market is to obtain my salesperson license as a start and work "part-time". I have done vast research through these forums and others alike only to see some very discouraging posts about part-time agents. I currently work a part-time job in which I dedicate roughly 30 hours a week without touching the weekends. I believe I could invest 40 hours a week or more if I include being an active communicator during breaks, and after typical hours. I understand that I am limited to part-time though because my hours are not free of limitations. I am only really in class two days a week though if that helps much.
My main issues are that I can't save up enough money to survive a year of no income reasonably, but I can see myself living many months on a tight budget (I am in college so I know what broke is). I hold a certain confidence that I will adapt quickly and be successful, but I don't want to sound cocky like half the people that come in and crash. I understand how difficult it is, and I am willing to put in the work.
I am looking to do my online 150 hours of pre-license courses online and the other 60 I believe I already have through my University studies. I feel that I would start after the Summer and only be a student through this one last year, however if I do not secure an internship in Marketing, possibly start this Summer.
I wonder if anyone has any advice for this long-winded, and sometimes overly ambitious Marketing student. I suppose all I am looking for is if someone thinks that this is my time before I get into a heavily involved career that would not allow for easy switching?
Looking forward to actively pursuing this topic,
Tyler Wright
